Published: May 13 2025

As the second installment of "The Tourist" unfolds, a vigilant train guard detects wisps of smoke curling from one of the compartments. He promptly raps on the door, commanding its occupant to reveal themselves. Elliot (played by Jamie Dornan) swings the door wide, preemptively introducing Helen (portrayed by Danielle Macdonald) as his girlfriend. Both vehemently deny any involvement with marijuana smoking. The guard, however, discovers a lighter inscribed with the offensive phrase "Vietnamese and gay," which he sternly condemns before issuing a smoke-free warning. He then queries Elliot about his beard, prompting the couple to close the door and retreat to bed. Elliot reassures Helen that his beard will be shaved upon their arrival in Cambodia, expressing an unwavering belief that nothing can harm them. Helen, holding a letter meant for Elliot that arrived at the police station during his hospital stay, inquiries if he is utterly confident in that assertion. The letter contains a snapshot of Elliot alongside a man named Tommy, sparking Helen's curiosity about Elliot's true identity.

Shortly afterward, they find themselves at the Sclata Café, where Helen immerses herself in Irish literature while they await an enigmatic visitor. A man approaches, utters a greeting, and swiftly departs, leading Elliot to speculate that it might have been Tommy. Convinced, Elliot decides to shed his beard immediately and excuses himself to the restroom. Meanwhile, Helen engages with a young boy attempting to retrieve his errant ball, though he remains unresponsive to her overtures.

Unbeknownst to Helen, Elliot is ambushed in the bathroom by two masked assailants. Overpowered, he's bundled into the back of a van. Helen, noticing signs of a struggle upon returning, sets out to locate Elliot. Trapped inside the van, Elliot secures a shard of glass, attempting to free his bonds and break through the rear door while the van's occupants remain oblivious due to blaring music. Seizing his moment, Elliot slips out of the back just as his captors turn to confront him. He narrowly escapes the stalling van but trips over a rock, tumbling down a hill.

Elsewhere, Detective Ruairi Slater (Conor MacNeill) weeps inconsolably in a bathroom stall when a knock interrupts his solitude. He learns of an Australian woman's recent arrival in the country, detailing an abduction incident at Sclata Café. In a bizarre ritual, Slater removes his ring, casts it into the toilet, and retrieves it swiftly thereafter. Meanwhile, Elliot struggles to catch a signal on his phone, desperate for a way out.

The van creeps up on him from behind, signaling the resumption of the chase. This instance, Elliot is brutally slammed to the pavement. As grasping hands encircle him, he queries whether they are in Kosta's employ. Elliot demands to know what crime he has committed, only to be met with a brutal knockout. Detective Slater crosses paths with Helen, who is frantic with worry, revealing that her boyfriend, Elliot, has vanished. Slater harbors suspicions that someone other than Tommy orchestrated their message and set up the meeting. Helen, convinced that Elliot is in grave danger, urges Slater to inspect the scene. Together, they scrutinize the bathroom, with Helen meticulously pointing out where the van was parked and its subsequent trajectory.

Elliot awakens in a dimly lit room, a boar carcass looming nearby, bearing a cryptic message urging him to uncover its secrets. He pounds frantically on the door, pleading for release. Within the boar's carcass, Elliot discovers a key, which he promptly uses to liberate himself. Shortly after, he stumbles upon a baby monitor, and a disguised voice taunts him, claiming to be the last voice he will ever hear. Helen confides in Detective Slater about Elliot, blaming herself for his abduction. Slater assures her they will locate him.

At the police station, Helen receives messages probing her whereabouts with Elliot and when she plans to return home. A call from Ethan Krum (Greg Larsen) interrupts, jogging his memory of their conversation. He admits it served as a wake-up call and reveals he is delivering a talk on toxic masculinity at the Coal Harbour Community Centre, acknowledging that their discussion is being monitored as part of the process. Ethan acknowledges the impact of his past behavior on Helen and expresses a desire to make amends, but Helen abruptly ends the call.

Slater informs Helen that DNA results from the bottle are pending but reveals a breakthrough of sorts. He insists on a private conversation before disclosing anything further. They then consult with Niamh Cassidy (Olwen Fouere), who received an unexpected photo of Elliot. She shockingly reveals herself as his mother. Elliot is granted the option to leave the room, but a harrowing choice looms: amputation of his legs as the sole passage out. When Elliot refuses, a grenade is hurled into the room with him. Fergal, Orla, and Donal (Diarmaid Murtagh) enter, their laughter echoing ominously. Donal asks Elliot if he remembers him, to which Elliot responds with a vague tale of an accident that erased much of his memory, shrouding the scene in an air of mystery and peril.

Fergal, portrayed by Mark McKenna, securely binds Elliot's hands behind his back, compelling him to confess that the name McDonnell rings no bells. As Elliot's insults provoke a strike, Fergal persists with his inquisitions. Orla, embodied by Nessa Matthews, urges him to hop onto a dating app, disregarding Elliot's plight. Elliot, realizing his predicament, apologizes profusely for his undefined offenses. Orla, unrelenting, asserts that his deeds, whether remembered or not, are numerous. Elliot's嘲笑 at Donal's name earns him another blow from Orla.

Helen intercepts Niamh, seeking a private conversation before her departure. Their discussion revolves around Elliot, but Niamh remains clueless about his whereabouts or his abductor. Last seen at 27, amidst his father's hospitalization, she hasn't laid eyes on him for seven years. His abrupt departure is a mystery she can't unravel. Niamh inquiries if Elliot's visit was intended for her. Helen recounts a car crash from a year ago. Niamh's mind drifts to a memory of Elliot dancing to a tune, a relic from his ballet days. Helen receives a call confirming the DNA match on the whiskey bottle with the clothes found in Elliot's bag. Niamh, fixated on a picture of the bottles, seems to recall something but chooses to remain silent, hastily departing the scene.

Ruairi returns home to share his day's events with his mother, Fiona (Emer Casey), delving into a whimsical conversation about apples. Meanwhile, Slater sneaks through a concealed doorway, concealing it behind him, and armed with a knife, engages in a dialogue about pork and beans with an unseen figure. Ethan engages another man in conversation about his strained relationship with Helen, believing she's left the door ajar for him. Determined, Ethan books a flight to Ireland.

Helen keeps Niamh Cassidy under surveillance before proceeding to her motel. She checks in and retreats to her room. Elsewhere, Elliot confides in Donal about his amnesia. Donal, harshly reminding him of Tamar, whom he can't recall, loses his temper and strikes Elliot's head. He considers shooting Elliot, disregarding their original agreement. Orla reminds him of their pact, but Donal's resolve remains unbroken. However, Orla senses that his loyalty to Frank might still sway him. When alone, Elliot politely requests a drink from Fergal, who obliges by releasing his bonds, only to re-tie them in front. As Elliot savors the drink, a family recipe, he remarks that Fergal doesn't seem as vengeful as the others, possibly due to his aversion to witnessing bloodshed.

Elliot clings to the belief that his actions render him ordinary. As Fergal's gaze wanders elsewhere, Elliot stealthily concocts a Molotov cocktail, his movements almost imperceptible. Helen, her eyes drawn to the image of a whiskey bottle in a photograph, exits the scene and trails after Niamh, who eventually confronts Briain McDonnell (played by David Greene). Niamh demands to know his whereabouts, prompting him to inquire why he should disclose such information. She insists that he relay a message to his cousins, but her patience wanes, culminating in a sudden, vicious stab to his eye.

Detective Slater descends back into the basement, his heart racing with dread upon spotting his doll lying abandoned on the floor. Meanwhile, Donal rejoins the group just as Elliot primes himself for action. With swift precision, Elliot sets Donal aflame before darting away, leaving Donal to urge the others in pursuit of him. Orla receives a call and hastily informs someone that Elliot has momentarily slipped their grasp.

Ethan boards a plane bound for Ireland, where Lena Pascal (portrayed by Victoria Haralabidou) takes her seat beside him, engrossed in a conversation on the phone with Orla. She instructs Orla to simply locate Elliot, her tone unwavering. Ethan attempts to engage Lena in conversation, but she remains indifferent, her thoughts elsewhere. Elliot finds himself at a precipice, realizing with a jolt that he is stranded on an isolated island.

Beneath the waves, two divers discover a submerged plane. In a chilling turn, one diver shackles the other to a post within the aircraft and brutally stabs them, before escaping with a mysterious box in hand. Emerging from the water, the perpetrator halts at a phone booth, her breathless voice conveying to an unseen recipient that her deed is done and Elliot Stanley is no more.
