Episode 5 of *The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon* Season 3 opens with a harrowing scene: two Alcazar enforcers are subjecting Roberto to a gruesome torture, using walkers as their instruments of terror. The grisly tableau is interrupted by the arrival of Antonio, Daryl, and Carol, who swiftly intervene to save Roberto from his tormentors. Through a poignant flashback, Roberto recounts the harrowing events that led to this moment. Justina, far from being a willing participant, had issued a stark ultimatum: expose the election rigging unless Fede called off La Ofrenda. In a desperate bid to safeguard the Alliance, Fede hands her over to the Alcazar faction. Roberto stumbles upon Justina in the wilderness, and they nearly manage to flee before the Alcazar thugs catch up with them. Now, save for the two brutish thugs and Roberto, the rest of the convoy has departed with Justina, bound for Barcelona.
In the present, a rift emerges between Carol and Daryl as they debate their next course of action. Carol's resolve to not abandon Justina is unwavering, prompting Daryl to make a solitary decision to rescue her. Reluctant to expose Carol to further peril, he assures her of his return and sets off alone in pursuit of the convoy.
Back at Solaz, Fede breathes a sigh of relief upon learning of Roberto's rescue, even reminiscing fondly about Maria, Antonio's late wife. Carol, however, remains wary, and together with Antonio, they concoct a fabricated tale to explain Roberto's ordeal and Daryl's mysterious absence, claiming he's preoccupied with boat repairs. For the moment, Fede appears to accept their explanation. Paz, with her keen intuition, sees through their ruse, but Antonio, placing his trust in her, confides in her fully.
Meanwhile, in the unforgiving expanse of the Spanish desert, Daryl encounters a blind elderly man fleeing from vultures, his pleas for water desperate and heart-wrenching. Nearby, a train is being inexorably pulled by a massive horde of walkers. The train's occupants, a ruthless gang known as the Buzzards, spot Daryl and give chase on their motorcycles. In the ensuing frantic pursuit, Daryl loses his bike and most of his supplies to the Buzzards. The relentless heat begins to take its toll, and in a moment of恍惚, he recalls a young Merle urging him to flee from their abusive father.
Daryl's fortunes take a turn when he is discovered and rescued by Limbos, a community of leper survivors led by the resolute Mateo and the healthy Amaia. Their historic town, Belchite, is a haven of resources save for one critical necessity: water, which the Buzzards have ruthlessly commandeered. Moreover, they are outcasts, shunned by the rest of Spain due to their illness. In exchange for a truck, they implore Daryl to reclaim their stolen water. That night, Daryl is moved by the sight of the children, knowing they cannot survive much longer without water.
He agrees to aid them, rallying the community behind his audacious plan to overthrow the Buzzards. When asked about his perception of them, he recalls Isabelle's words about *dépaysant*—how something different can also be a source of strength and beauty. His heart is touched when a little girl, despite her own scarcity, offers him her share of water.
The moment has arrived to lay the bait, and he sets out alone. The rest of the group places their trust in him, though Amaia harbors suspicions that he might desert them. He seems torn, his internal conflict evident, but in the end, he remains steadfast to the plan. Leading the majority of the Buzzards, he marches them toward Belchite. The town is rife with traps, and the Buzzards quickly find themselves scattered. One after another, they fall prey to the hidden dangers. It's a nail-biting ordeal as Daryl's ammunition dwindles to nearly nothing, but in a dramatic flourish, he decapitates the last adversary.
Next, Daryl shifts his focus to the remaining thugs holed up inside a train. He unleashes chaos by freeing the walkers, allowing them to swarm the enemies. With the threat neutralized, the Limbos reclaim their stolen water. The little girl, Rosa, bids Daryl a heartfelt farewell, and he sets his sights on Barcelona.
Back in Solaz, an unexpected visitor arrives in the form of Valentina, who has come to check in on Roberto. As she observes the growing closeness between Carol and Antonio, she can't resist teasing Carol about it. Antonio, overhearing the exchange, jokes about Valentina's nosiness. Yet, like Valentina, he too is intrigued by Carol's next move. Carol reveals her plans to depart for the USA but extends an invitation to Antonio to join her. Apart from Solaz, Barcelona was the only other place he had ever tried to call home, and that endeavor hadn't panned out. Thus, he finds himself at a loss for words in response to Carol. Nonetheless, he grasps her hand as they pray together for Roberto, Justina, and Daryl.
Meanwhile, Dona Marga discovers Justina's compass necklace clutched in Roberto's hand and passes it on to Fede. Fede suggests that Justina might have intentionally left it for Roberto, but even he begins to harbor doubts. He instructs Sergio, the gunman who had previously attempted to kill Roberto, to verify whether Daryl is indeed aboard his boat.
