It is amidst this backdrop that Dong-jin steps into the picture, confiding in Mi-jeong his mission to compile data on her, aiming to help her break free from her introspective shell.
Eun-sil then weaves a tale from Mi-jeong's past, painting a picture of her journey from being admitted to Hankook University as an English major to her desperate attempts to blend into the background, shying away from the limelight. Despite her efforts, she inadvertently became the object of affection for many male students. During this period, she crossed paths with Ik-jong once more, who pretended not to recognize her, having already been privy to hometown gossips about her. Meanwhile, a persistent admirer chased after Mi-jeong relentlessly, ultimately sustaining an injury after falling down a staircase in his pursuit, despite her repeated attempts to evade him.
Furthermore, Mi-jeong's married English professor, driven by unrequited feelings, attempted to confess his affection for her post-exam. However, she abruptly left before he could articulate his sentiments fully. Later, while Mi-jeong was in Eun-sil's company, the professor tragically plummeted from a building window while gazing at her. This harrowing incident cemented the rumors surrounding Mi-jeong, transforming them into widely believed "facts." Overwhelmed by the weight of these accusations, she ultimately withdrew from college.
Determined to find her friend, Eun-sil embarked on a search that led her to Mi-jeong, living in seclusion among the slums, shunning human contact as much as possible. Though Eun-sil had provided Mi-jeong with her contact details, it wasn't until months later, when Mi-jeong's residence was burglarized, that she reached out. Eun-sil promptly assisted her in securing the rooftop room at her aunt's house, offering a sanctuary of sorts.
Later, Eun-sil orchestrates a meeting between Dong-jin and individuals who had previously interacted with Mi-jeong, facilitating his data collection for his burgeoning hypothesis. As they bid farewell, Dong-jin reveals his bold plan to test his theory personally. To this end, he takes up a part-time job as a delivery worker, strategically ensuring he works solely on the days Mi-jeong orders groceries. On the fateful day, he sets a timer for ten minutes and hands Mi-jeong her package, the scene teeming with anticipation. The episode concludes at this pivotal juncture, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats.
