The battle ensues, with the Montecalvo mages and witchers initially holding their own against the evil forces. However, the tide soon turns as a novice and Rita fall, their lives cut short. The evil mages continually retreat through portals whenever they seem to be on the verge of defeat. Yen implores Fringilla to intervene and restore the portals, but when the guards check on her, she knocks them out and escapes, freeing Istredd who knows how to release the portals from Vilgefortz’s control. However, he requires the power of the Monolith portal to do so.

As Vilgefortz finally arrives, he hunts down Yen, who enters his mind in shock upon discovering his plan to drain Ciri’s life force slowly and painfully. This act allows Vilgefortz to escape, leaving Yen frustrated as she stabs the attacking mage, only for them and Francesca, along with another elven mage, to be portaled away. Fringilla calls for Yen's aid to stop Istredd, who insists on powering the Monolith despite the risk of his own death.

Meanwhile, Vesemir attacks Vilgefortz, almost succeeding in taking down the mage until Vilgefortz kills him at the last moment. He then portals all the Montecalvo mages to the courtyard for a mass execution, but misses Philippa who is in the water tower. Before the evil mages can unleash their fire, Philippa releases the keep's water, allowing Yen to use it to extinguish the flames. Istredd releases the portals just in time, and Yen distracts Vilgefortz as the Montecalvo mages emerge from behind with a surprise attack that proves fatal to all the evil mages.

Vilgefortz escapes to his hideout, Stygga Castle, only to find Istredd destroying the Monolith portal. Fringilla portals Istredd back to Montecalvo where he tells Yen about Stygga Castle and sacrifices his own life in the process.

As the narrative unfolds, we witness Ciri's indomitable spirit in action. When the Rats seize a wealthy boy for ransom, she hesitates not a moment too long. But when the boy dares to insult them, Ciri swiftly dispatches him with a brutal knockout, followed by a relentless assault on the majority of their guards. Kayleigh, impressed by her daring display of strength, welcomes her into their fold. As they indulge in their high and partying ways, Mistle looks on with a worried eye, imploring Ciri not to let the darkness within her consume her. Ciri, however, embraces her darker self, stating that this is who she truly is.

Meanwhile, in an inn, an escaped guard boasts about his supposed failure to kill Falka (Ciri). Leo, overhearing the conversation, takes offense and questions the guard with a mischievous grin. Annoyed by Leo's taunts, the guard refuses to divulge any information. However, Leo turns the tables on him by subjecting him and his friends to a form of torture. The guard, in his final moments, mentions a Hotspurn before succumbing to his fate. As he departs, Leo steals a Falka doll from a young girl's grasp.

Back in Montecalvo, the mages set fire to the Book of Monolith. Fringilla then guides Yen towards Emhyr's tower. Using his portals, Yen journeys there, battling his way through the Nilfgaardian guards and demanding to see Ciri. The tension and drama of these events heighten the sense of urgency and danger that permeates every scene.
