Tokyo Vice – Season 2 Episode 6

Published: Jul 01 2024

Episode 6 of Tokyo Vice Season 2 kicks off with a nostalgic flashback, recalling the moment when Kome introduced Sato to Ishida, the esteemed oyabun. Initially, Ishida instructed Kome to send Sato back to his original home, yet upon learning of Sato's plight, he was compassionately welcomed into the Chihara-kai fold.

Jumping to the present, Sato frantically begs his fellow gang members to rush Ishida to a hospital. He is clinging to life, a fragile thread connecting him to the world. Urgently needing medical attention, Hayama opts to summon the yakuza doctor who had previously treated Sato, rather than rushing him to a hospital.

During the investigation, Samantha adamantly claims she has no ties to Ohno or Ishida, despite being spotted with the latter before the shooting. Nagata, despite their encounter, lacks sufficient evidence to detain her. In a hallway respite, Samantha encounters Tozawa, who addresses her by her name, sending a chill through her spine. Yet, she remains helpless in the situation.

Jake attempts to extract more information about the shooters from Katagiri and Sato, but both remain guarded, seeking answers to their own questions. Tozawa's unexpected appearance stirs up a storm. He voluntarily steps into the police station, offering photos as proof of his alibi—snapped during a gumi dinner at the time of the shooting. As Tozawa exits, he spots Katagiri entering the restroom and tails him, a haunting scenario for the detective who deeply dislikes such yakuza scrutiny. He even warns Tozawa that the yakuza's reign is coming to an end, yet his demeanor betrays his fear.

Misaki discovers, in her hotel suite, that she has been "replaced" by a youthful Sakura. Tozawa's cavalier switch of companions for his mountain trip leaves Misaki feeling devastated. Yet, this misfortune propels her straight into Jake's embrace, though they decide to keep their burgeoning relationship a secret. Tragically, Ishida succumbs to his injuries, leaving Sato and Katagiri, who held him in high esteem, heartbroken. Hayama now leads the Chihara-kai, but he lacks Ishida's stature and moral compass.

Katagiri's stark warning reverberated, resounding through the city's streets as a clarion call, urging calm and restraint. The other men trembled beneath its weight, yet Hayama stood firm, unwavering. Meanwhile, Jake sought Samantha's counsel, delving deeper into the identities of the shooters. He disclosed that Tozawa's schemes were unfolding at a rapid pace, and Samantha, already shaken, was now doubly terrified by Jake's revelation. She handed him a crude depiction of the tattoo she had glimpsed on the shooters' arms.

Holding the drawing, Jake approached Ukai, a man who had once struggled with addiction and lost his footing in the yakuza world. Now, he had found solace in religion and spirituality, embarking on a healthier path. Though initially repelled by Jake's presence, the man who had once overdosed him in a bid for information on Polina, Ukai reluctantly offered assistance. He recognized the tattooed men, revealing that they belonged to the Hishinuma-kai, the yakuza group that had initially sparked the task force's ire.

Jake felt a spark of hope, sensing that he was finally on the cusp of bringing Tozawa to justice by connecting these shooters to him. However, Eimi, his editor at the Meicho, remained vigilant, advising Jake to prioritize attending his father's 60th birthday celebration in the US.

Hayama, meanwhile, remained steadfast in his mission, targeting Kaito despite his brother's stern admonishments. He cunningly manipulated Kaito's mind, convincing him that Tozawa was plotting against Sato and that if Kaito didn't act first, Sato would fall. Hayama slyly slipped a gun into Kaito's hand, along with details of a restaurant and a time, where he claimed Tozawa would be dining.

But Sato's inherent goodness intervened, saving Kaito from a tragic fate. Gen, who had once stabbed Sato but relented when Ishida offered his own head, informed Sato of the impending meeting. Sato hastened to Kaito's dorm room, arriving just in time to prevent him from throwing away his life. Furious, Sato stormed into Hayama's room to confront him, but Hayama's superior rank left Sato powerless to drive a wedge between his brother and Hayama.

Shingo's meeting with Eimi and her brother Kei initially seemed promising, offering Eimi a ray of hope for a peaceful life. But after Shingo departed, Kei mocked him for abandoning his family, scathing Eimi for her choice in men and accusing her of wanting to end up alone. Heartbroken, Eimi walked away from his room, tears streaming down her face. Undeterred, Katagiri boldly put his honor on the line, sincerely pleading with the imprisoned Hishinuma to aid their investigation.

Nagata and Katagiri trace the whereabouts of one of the shooters, yet upon their arrival, they are faced with a gruesome sight—the shooter lies lifeless. Now, with urgency in their hearts, they must reach the other shooter before Tozawa does. Jake, leaving a heartfelt message for his father, acknowledges that he won't be able to attend. His spirits lift when Misaki unexpectedly appears at his doorstep, and they spend a passionate night together before her departure. However, Misaki's joy is shattered when she discovers one of Tozawa's henchmen outside, waiting to abduct her and take her back to him.

Amidst the turmoil and shootings, Erika decides to sever her relationship with Sato. He, with remarkable maturity and understanding, gracefully accepts her choice. Jake's temper flares as he reads Tin Tin's article about the shooting in the papers. Though the information is factual, it portrays Samantha in an unfavorable light, igniting Jake's biases. His rage collides with his colleague, but it is Eimi's calm yet firm response that brings him to his senses. She puts the situation into perspective, compelling Jake to put aside the turmoil and return to the States for his father's birthday.

Privately, one of the senior boardroom members, who overheard Jake's impassioned speech against Tozawa, encourages Eimi to pursue the lead, even if the puzzle isn't entirely solved yet. Meanwhile, Sato makes an unexpected appearance at Samantha's house, and their reunion, perhaps, rekindles their relationship. Katagiri is startled to find a stranger in his home, but his heart fills with hope when he realizes this stranger is the other shooter, seeking refuge in his sanctuary.
