In the inaugural episode of "Typhoon Family," we are introduced to Typhoon Trading, a thriving local business in South Korea, whose office is being filmed for a TV segment. The camera pans through the various employees, including the company's founder, Kang Jin-young. On the other end of the spectrum lies Kang Tae-poong, a 26-year-old in a leather jacket and Armani shirt, as he strolls into a nightclub with his friends.
But Tae-poong makes a wrong turn, and finds himself in a room with Yu-rim and Pyo Hyun-jun, who he tends to clash with. The resulting brawl with Tae-poong's friend, Nam-mo, and the other boys ends with them all at the police station.
Meanwhile, Oh Mi-seon, the bookkeeper at Typhoon Trading, is striving to secure a spot for a geography course at a counseling center (with aspirations of attending college). However, she is forced to take an earth science course instead.
At the police station, Jin-young arrives and informs Jeong-mi, Tae-poong's mother, that he wants Tae-poong to suffer the consequences. But Pyo Bak-ho, Hyun-jun's father and an old acquaintance of Jin-young, intervenes and bails the boys out of trouble. The two men greet each other with a deep bow.
Later on, Jin-young reiterates his shame at his son's actions and physically reprimands Tae-poong when he asks for more money. Tae-poong simply walks away and heads to a greenhouse where he spends the night tending to the plants while dancing to K-pop music.
As dawn breaks, he meticulously assembles a bouquet of flowers, then boards the train, lulled by the rhythm of its journey. Oh Mi-seon, seated beside him on the train, catches a glimpse of his serene demeanor. As he disembarks in a hurry, a single bloom inadvertently remains behind, picked up by Mi-seon.
Tae-poong carries the flowers home for his mother, while his home is filled with the hushed whispers of Jin-young and his wife, discussing the prospect of Tae-poong finding employment once again.
Later that day, Nam-mo calls Tae-poong, urging him to participate in a reality show for singles, filling in for their friend Yun-seong who has eluded their reach. Among the single men on the show is Tae-poong himself, tasked with interacting with four single women. One of them is Mi-ho, who happens to be Mi-seon's younger sister, preparing for a job interview as an air hostess.
At the office, Jin-young rewards his employees with a special bonus for their recent successful deal. However, a call from an Italian client soon follows, requesting an advance payment for a trade with Daebang Textile. It's a risky venture, but the temptation of the substantial sum is irresistible. Jin-young signs the deal despite his reservations.
On their way to the club, Tae-poong once again crosses paths with Hyun-jun and Yu-rim. As he reunites with his friends, they discuss Yun-seong and his sudden disappearance. One of them reveals that Yun-seong's family has fallen on hard times, prompting him to flee. Tae-poong visits Yun-seong's abandoned home and finds him trying to escape. Tae-poong persuades him to leave, giving him all his cash and even his prized watch. As he walks back, he sees his father dining alone in a restaurant, only to pause at the last moment before joining him.
Back at the greenhouse, Tae-poong shows Nam-mo a new version of his domestically grown rose. This new rose is cheaper and more vibrant than any other rose currently available in the market. Tae-poong plans to present it to his father soon as a sign of his progress and determination.
At Typhoon Trading, Jin-young brings some unwelcome news to his employees - a cheque from Gisang Chemical has defaulted, and since Jin-young had invested all his money in the Italian deal, their salaries are temporarily at risk.
Moments after this, Jin-young succumbs to a sudden collapse in his office, his life's vitality rushed to the hospital in an urgent call for help. Meanwhile, Mi-seon braves the college scholastic ability test, an arduous entrance exam to embark on her higher education journey.
In the hospital's serene yet intense atmosphere, the doctor gently informs Tae-poong that his father is stable but requires close monitoring. As he attempts to process this news, a message flashes on his pager from a friend, announcing that Hyun-jun has once again stirred up trouble, now involving Yun-seong.
Tae-poong leaves in haste to lend a hand to his friends, while Mi-seon visits Jin-young in the hospital. In a quiet moment, Jin-young shares a piece of information with her that carries weight.
As Tae-poong arrives at the club, he learns that the call was a cruel prank—Hyun-jun's mischievous attempt to celebrate Tae-poong's family's financial predicament. As Hyun-jun gloats, Nam-mo rushes in, urgently directing Tae-poong back to the hospital.
As news of South Korea's financial crisis spreads like wildfire, Tae-poong races towards the hospital with every fiber of his being. But it's too late; Jin-young has passed on, leaving behind a heavy void that echoes through the corridors of life.
