In the opening of Episode 3 of "Vanished," Alice's memory takes us to her visit to Tom at the camp in Jordan. As she walks in, she catches him in a tense conversation with Mira. Tom brushes it off as work, and Mira, with a dismissive attitude, welcomes her, reminding him that they need to finalize a few things regarding a refugee.

Now, we return to Alice hiding out at Helene's place. She wakes up, takes a look at Helene's evidence board, and then searches for her online. It turns out that Helene was fired for publishing a fabricated story. Later, Helene tells her about a company called Kalco, which is one of the companies that SOS has contracts with for aid programs. Unfortunately, Helene discovers that it's a ghost company.
Alice remembers taking a picture with Tom at Kalco headquarters in Jordan. She shows Helene the picture, and the conversation turns to whether Tom is a human trafficker. Alice accuses Helene of being a conspiracy theorist.
For the rest of the day, Helene and Alice secretly follow Alex. They spot him visiting the port, and Alice figures out that the receipt she found on Tom's belongings might be for a container. They also spot Alex secretly meeting with Inspector Drax, leading them to question if the two are working together.
Things get even more complicated when they spot Alex meeting with Tom. Alice loses her cool and orders Helene to follow the taxi Tom took. With the traffic, Alice becomes anxious that they will lose Tom and frantically follows the taxi on foot. Finally, she sees Tom before he heads in for an event with Mira. Based on how sweet they are to each other, Alice assumes Tom has been having an affair with Mira. He apologizes for how he ended things and asks her to leave. When Alice brings up Malik, Tom acts confused, as if he has no idea what she's talking about. Mira approaches, and Tom clarifies that they are over before heading inside with Mira.
The intense conversation attracts the attention of onlookers, including two police officers. Alice tries to walk away quietly but is chased by them, forcing her to run and hide. Thankfully, she manages to lose them. She reunites with Helene at a dimly lit pub and tells her everything that happened with Tom. Helene is angry that she blew their cover and lost their only advantage. Alice brings up Helene's failed career and says she's out.
She storms out for a walk, but suddenly realizes she can't just leave. Helene finds her and they return home. This time, Helene opens up about the betrayal she faced at the hands of her former lover. It shattered the little faith she had in men and pretty much ruined her career. She reminds Alice that they are in this together and running off every time she gets mad is exhausting. She also asks about Alice's motives for sticking around. At the end of the day, Alice believes something is off with Tom and wants answers. Like her work, Alice wants to figure out exactly what happened. Since Alice still believes in Tom's innocence, Helene brings her to one of the underground brothels in town. She introduces Alice to Hebe, a young Syrian woman who was trafficked into the country. Hebe becomes hysterical when she sees Tom's pictures and the pimp quickly kicks them out. Feeling more pressed to find answers, the duo go through the investigation board to see what they are missing. Alice chops off her hair in an attempt to change her appearance. They then head off to the port authority office and ask for help tracking down the container listed on the receipt Tom left behind. The manager refuses to help, so Helene distracts him by pretending she is choking on a sweet. This allows Alice time to log in and track the container. Fortunately, Helene and Alice learn that the container arrived at the port the previous night. Later that night, they sneak into the port and break into the container. Their jaws drop when they find women and children locked inside.
