Wednesday – Season 1 Episode 1

Published: Jul 03 2024

Episode 1 of "Wednesday" kicks off with the hustle and bustle of students streaming into Nancy Reagan High School. Amongst the crowd stands Wednesday, her sharp eyes immediately catching sight of her younger brother, Pugsley, a hapless victim of bullying. The bullies had cruelly tied him up in her locker, an apple lodged awkwardly in his mouth. With deft movements, Wednesday unties him from the ropes, her mind fleetingly capturing the horrors the bullies had inflicted. Fueled by righteous indignation, she sets out to confront them.

Wednesday finds her tormentors gathered around the school's swimming pool. Without hesitation, she releases two bags of bloodthirsty red-bellied piranhas into the water. She watches with a mix of fascination and satisfaction as the piranhas descend upon the boys, their screams echoing through the air.

The scene shifts to Wednesday being chauffeured to Nevermore by her parents, her expression betraying her discontent. Her parents strive to reassure her that Nevermore is the perfect fit for her, but Wednesday suspects they're merely fulfilling some legacy they left behind in the school. (After all, they had attended the same institution and it was where their love story began.)

Morticia, her mother, insists that Nevermore is a place where Wednesday's peers will understand her, a magical realm unlike any other. She also mentions that Wednesday narrowly escaped being charged with attempted murder for her actions at her previous school.

Wednesday – Season 1 Episode 1 1

As they arrive at Nevermore, the principal, Larissa, greets them warmly. It turns out that Larissa and Morticia were old roommates. Impressed by Wednesday's stellar grades and the family's longstanding ties with the school, Larissa admits her mid-term, much to Morticia's relief. Worried about Wednesday's mental health, Morticia informs Larissa that the court has mandated therapy for her daughter. Larissa assures her that they have a certified therapist and Wednesday can meet with her twice a week.

Larissa assigns Wednesday to Ophelia Hall, her mother's former dorm, and introduces her to her new roommate, Enid Sinclair. Enid, a bubbly girl, is thrilled to have a new roommate and eagerly offers to show her around the school. However, Wednesday seems indifferent, having no intention of staying long at Nevermore.

Enid can't resist bringing up the rumors surrounding Wednesday's legal troubles at her previous school. Wednesday confirms the rumors calmly, her composure unaffected. Enid persists in showing Wednesday around, informing her about the school's social cliques: fangs, furs, stones, and scales.

As the family bids Wednesday farewell, Morticia warns her against attempting to escape the school. Wednesday believes her mother underestimates her and vows to flee this educational penitentiary. Her mother tells her that while she is brilliant, she sometimes gets in her own way. Before leaving, she gives Wednesday a parting gift: a pendant crafted from obsidian and a crystal ball to stay in touch. Her father adds another gift, a hand-shaped charm, a token to watch over her discretely.

Meanwhile, in the woods near Nevermore, a sheriff and another officer stumble upon human remains. The female officer informs the sheriff that there have been two similar attacks in the past week. The sheriff wants to issue a warning to keep hikers away from the woods and blame the attacks on bears, though he knows it wasn't a bear that struck the hikers. He suspects the murders are somehow connected to Nevermore, but unfortunately, he has no evidence to support his hunch and decides to stick to the bear attack narrative for now.

Wednesday encountered immense challenges in adjusting to her new school life. The following morning, she stumbled into an adversarial relationship with the school's reigning queen bee. Amidst the turmoil, she sustained an injury but found solace in a newfound friendship with Rowan. Narrowly escaping a near-fatal encounter with a gargoyle, Wednesday was miraculously saved by Xavier, repaying a favor she had granted him a decade earlier.

Later, she stumbled upon a gift left by her father. She chose to enlist Thing as her loyal accomplice, her first mission being a daring escape from the confines of the school. Principal Larissa escorted her to her therapist appointment, keeping a watchful eye. Wednesday cunningly slipped away, using a toilet window as her escape route, and headed to a nearby cafe to gather information on how to navigate her way out of the town.

On the bustling streets, Wednesday encountered a rude man, her intuition granting her a fleeting vision of his impending doom. Dismissive of his rudeness, she dismissed him as unworthy of her intervention. In the cafe, she encountered Tyler and struck a bargain with him: she would mend his malfunctioning coffee machine, and in return, he would secure a taxi for her. Tyler offered to chauffeur her himself, but she was forced to bide her time for an hour. Despite her attempts to bribe him with money, Tyler remained steadfast, unwavering in his refusal.

As she awaited Tyler's arrival, three mischievous boys entered the cafe, their antics escalating into harassment. Wednesday, however, proved to be a formidable opponent, utilizing her exceptional fighting skills to swiftly subdue them. Shortly after the altercation, the Sheriff stumbled upon the scene, shocked to witness a young girl fend off three boys. He questioned Tyler, his son, about his involvement, but Tyler remained silent.

Principal Larissa arrived in haste, quickly escorting Wednesday away. The Sheriff's disapproval was evident, reminding Wednesday that her father, Gomez Addams, was a convicted murderer. On their way back to the school, Larissa advised Wednesday to mend her ways, cultivating friendships rather than enemies.

At school, Wednesday and Enid found themselves growing closer. She asked a favor of Enid, utilizing her computer to send a message to Tyler via Thing. She recruited Tyler's help in orchestrating an escape during the harvest festival. Losing Larissa, who kept a vigilant watch over her, was a formidable challenge.

Tyler appeared at the festival as planned, presenting Wednesday with a police report on her father. As they attempted to sneak away, they were confronted by the trio of boys from the cafe, eager for a rematch. Tyler suggested losing them in the crowd, and they began to flee. However, Wednesday encountered Rowan and was granted another fleeting vision of him in peril.

Desperate to save him, she was startled to find that Rowan was intent on harming her, fueled by an ancient prophecy and a haunting portrait from his mother's past. Suddenly, a mysterious creature emerged from the shadows, saving Wednesday by slaying Rowan.

As the day drew to a close, Wednesday received a call from her parents. With a grudging admission, she confessed that, despite the challenges, she had grown fond of her new school.
