Determined to solve the case swiftly, Will posits that someone inside the club must have tipped off the shooter and wagers he can crack the case within a night. A fellow officer takes up the bet, hinting that the incident might be linked to a series of recent robberies plaguing midtown.
Inside the club, Will scours for clues, ultimately stumbling upon a social media account named Deux Peches. Upon inspecting it, he suspects that the account's operator could be the informer. In collaboration with Faith, they track down the account's owner, Ava Green, and arrest two individuals after breaking into her apartment. However, Ava protests her innocence, asserting that she merely provided information about locations via her social media, having no involvement in the club shooting. The similarity between her car and the getaway vehicle, she claims, was purely coincidental.
Will and Faith then question Pudge, the club's manager and a close friend of Conlan's. Pudge is evasive in his responses. When they return to confront him with evidence of his deceit, they find him dead. Will's suspicions deepen regarding Pudge's proximity to Conlan, noting Pudge's curious lack of contact with his friend following the traumatic event.
The investigation into the theft of Chris Conlan's priceless necklace unfolded like a tangled web of deceit, revealing a complex conspiracy. Conlan, who had cunningly insured his necklace and commissioned a meticulous replica, orchestrated an elaborate insurance fraud scheme. He entrusted his closest companion, Pudge, with the task of publicly "stealing" the faux jewelry, little knowing that fate had other plans. During the execution of this charade, Pudge's hand slipped, resulting in a tragic accident that left Conlan's wife wounded. It transpired that Conlan's manager, Lucas, harbored an illicit affair with Brooke and yearned to eliminate Conlan as an obstacle. The complexities surrounding the gentleman escalate dramatically as his entire workforce is grilled at the police precinct. Under interrogation, they divulge that he compensated them in cryptocurrencies and owed them several months' worth of salaries, which they fear have vanished into thin air. This financial void stems from Sean's demise, rendering the funds in his crypto account inaccessible. Nevertheless, a tech-savvy employee, who oversaw the man's technological affairs, asserts that a recent hacking incident drained the account, redirecting the funds to an unknown wallet.
Ormewood dives deeper into the investigative rabbit hole and unearths a secondary venture that Hinchcliff had embarked upon with Gregory Pardee. This illicit partnership involved peddling NFTs featuring performers from strip clubs, with cryptocurrency serving as the medium of exchange. Sean, however, sold the company and pocketed all the profits, abandoning Gregory high and dry. This betrayal served as the catalyst for Gregory's deadly retribution, culminating in Sean's untimely demise.
At Gregory's abode, Angie and Ormewood corner him, encountering a terrified woman in the process. Angie's sharp instincts recognize her as a victim of the notorious sex trafficking ring known as "Zero Mile." Despite her past endeavors to dismantle this organization during her tenure in Vice, she had faced numerous setbacks. Today, however, Angie might have stumbled upon a crucial witness who could hold the key to bringing "Zero Mile" to justice.
As the case draws to a close, Angie returns to Will's residence, where he warmly welcomes her in, inviting her to unwind and share the trials of her arduous day.
