Season 1, Episode 6 of "Will Trent" kicks off with a couple hastily packing their belongings in a desperate bid to escape their home. A shadowy figure clad in a hoodie bursts through the door, gunshots ringing out as the man falls, while his terrified partner scurries into a closet, clutching her breath in fear.
Meanwhile, Amanda enjoys a serene dinner with her esteemed boss, who reveals his intention to retire and expresses his hope that she will step into his shoes. With a word of caution about the job's demanding nature, he waits for her response. Amanda, undeterred, confidently asserts her readiness.
Elsewhere, Faith finds herself entangled in another heated exchange with her son when peculiar noises interrupt the confrontation. Intrigued, she ventures out to investigate and is taken aback to find Charles, her estranged ex, standing eerily in her home. Breathless and frayed, he claims to be under surveillance and pleads for her assistance, pointing out a suspicious vehicle that's been trailing him for days. Skeptical, Faith wonders if his paranoia stems from a lack of medication. Charles persists, insisting on his plight and urging her to take a closer look.
Agreeing to lend a hand, Faith contacts Will for reinforcement. They converge at Charles's residence, but the silver sedan he mentioned is conspicuously absent from its supposed vantage point two blocks away. The house appears serene, devoid of any immediate signs of distress.
Will's sharp eyes detect signs of intrusion, and Charles concurs, noting that he had left his home meticulously tidy, with windows ajar. Piecing together the clues, Will concludes that Charles's house may have been used as a vantage point to monitor his neighbors, Sally and Kevin. They rush to Sally and Kevin's home and are greeted by a harrowing sight: Sally, bound to a chair, lies lifeless, while Kevin's body lies beside her, equally still.
Elsewhere in the narrative, Angie encounters Katie, the woman she had rescued from the clutches of the notorious sex trafficking ring known as "Zero Mile." Katie's fate has taken a grim turn; arrested while attempting to purchase heroin, she is now entangled in the legal web as Angie's key witness. Katie, irate and anxious about Jade, another trafficking victim still in captivity, places her trust in Angie's promise to rescue her too.
Back at Charles's place, his guilt-ridden demeanor reflects his self-blame for the tragic demise of Sally and Kevin. Faith endeavors to soothe his fractured psyche as Will scours the crime scene, believing that Sally endured brutal torture to extract information before her untimely death. He suspects that Sally left a cryptic message intended for them and delves deeper into deciphering its cryptic meaning.
Sally was employed at Selantus, a cutting-edge tech firm responsible for designing and overseeing all of GBI's electronic systems. Will proposed that they pay a visit to Selantus to inquire about Sally's latest projects. Meanwhile, Amanda's anxiety about Charles reentering Faith's life persisted, prompting her to warn Faith to steer clear of him. Faith, pushed to her limits, erupted in frustration. She resented their relentless reminders of the blunder she had committed at the tender age of fifteen, when she had conceived a child. She castigated her mother and Amanda for their perceived roles in the tumultuous events involving Charles.
At Selantus, a shroud of suspicion loomed over the atmosphere, though Will and Faith struggled to decipher its essence. Faith's keen eye caught sight of a poster advertising a tech conference held the preceding weekend at Cabin Ridge Hotel, where Charles was employed. They hurried to the hotel, only to be informed by the manager that Charles's key card had been used during the conference and all pertinent information had already been relayed to the GBI. Will disclosed that he had encountered an imposter and requested access to the surveillance footage from the conference.
Their investigation unveiled that Sally had pilfered Charles's key card and abstracted an item from one of Selantus's reserved rooms. It seemed evident that the murderer was in relentless pursuit of whatever Sally had seized.
As night descended, Faith returned home to find Charles bonding with their son over dinner preparations. She grilled Charles about his whereabouts over the weekend and discovered that Kevin had orchestrated Charles's absence by gifting him tickets to a show, thereby facilitating Sally's theft of his key card.
The following morning, Faith's spirits were lifted by the prospect of having her own office. They met Rockie, the digital forensic expert assigned to their case. Rockie had successfully retrieved a digital backup of Sally's phone. They dialed a number associated with the astrological sign Sally had left behind, only to be abruptly disconnected by the recipient.
Meanwhile, Angie is diligently attempting to persuade Ormewood to embark on a rescue mission for Jade. She is in possession of a tip, albeit devoid of a warrant. Arriving at the house, they feign having heard a piercing scream, burst into the premises, and discover Jade, blissfully unaware that she has stumbled upon an audition trap. Angie swiftly informs her of the imminent danger—that she was nearly sold, evidenced by the tattoo inflicted by her captor. Jade confesses, her voice trembling, that she has been coerced into sleeping with various men. With compassion brimming in her eyes, Angie extricates Jade from the house and offers her solace. She subsequently reconnects Jade with Katie, their bond unbreakable despite the ordeal.
Later, Will returns home, confronting Nico, his dog walker, about the misplaced funds from his wallet. Rather than addressing the issue, Nico opts to resign, leaving Will fuming. Meanwhile, Faith arrives back at her abode to find Charles engulfed in a PTSD episode, insisting that an intruder lurks within. Determined to assure their safety, Faith initiates a thorough search of the house and stumbles upon a cryptic message scrawled on the mirror, warning her to desist. She promptly dials Will, who reveals that he too is being tailed.
Will manages to confront his stalker, who reveals herself to be Jess, a reporter. Jess unburdens herself to Will and Faith, disclosing that Sally was a whistle-blower who had uncovered a sinister plot. She swore them to secrecy and uncovers that Selantus possesses a clandestine backdoor entry into the GBI system, effectively spying on and betraying them by selling confidential information. Sally had intended to deliver proof but had only sent Jess a key, without specifying its purpose.
Jess speculates that the key unlocks a safe where Sally concealed her evidence on a hard drive. As they ponder their next move, Jess declines to accompany them to GBI, believing it unsafe. She issues a dire warning—to trust no one and shun devices connected to the Selantus network. Tragically, as she departs, Jess is gunned down in cold blood.
Will and Trent rush back to the office, briefing Amanda on Selantus's dubious dealings. Amanda demands evidence, and amidst their discourse, Rockie interrupts with alarming news of suspicious maintenance activities on the computer servers. Faith suspects Selantus is erasing their tracks, prompting Will to urge Amanda to halt the operation immediately.
Amanda hesitates, contemplating informing her supervisor, but Will's paranoia about trustworthiness stuns her. She ponders her future promotions amidst such skepticism. Their spat is interrupted by Amanda's secretary, announcing her boss's presence in her office.
Amanda confronts her superior, disclosing Selantus's involvement in the murders. She rehashes an old investigation involving a Selantus board member who had consistently outmaneuvered them. Her boss persuades her to drop the matter, but Amanda feigns compliance.
Internally torn, Amanda grapples with the realization that loyalty may have its limits, even among those perched atop the hierarchy.
Charles pops in unexpectedly to inform Will that the key unlocks the mysteries of Sally's P.O. Box. Simultaneously, Amanda takes drastic action by switching off every computer at the GBI. Will and Faith, realizing the urgency, race against time to prevent Selantus from laying claim to the last shred of evidence.
As they arrive at the P.O. Box office, their eyes catch a glimpse of a sleek silver sedan. Inside, a man has already beaten them to the punch, securing the evidence. Upon noticing the authorities, he barricades himself in a room and resorts to drastic measures – opening fire and capturing a hostage. In a chaotic twist, he throws the crucial hard drive onto the road, where it's relentlessly crushed under the wheels of a passing car.
The perpetrator, Vince, is swiftly apprehended but remains tight-lipped. The CEO of Selantus steps in, claiming that Vince was not spying on GBI, but on Selantus itself. This revelation prompts the GBI to sever their ties with Selantus, marking a bitter end to their collaboration.
Post-incident, Charles and Faith engage in a heartfelt conversation. Faith extends a sincere apology for the rocky path their relationship has taken. Charles, in turn, commends her for nurturing their child, brushing off the past with a magnanimous "it's all good."
Elsewhere, Angie breaks the news to Will that Nico has landed in a scrape, finding himself detained in a holding cell. Will earns Nico's trust, prompting a confession about Troy, a menacing figure who has been exacting a heavy toll on them. Moved by their plight, Will decides to take Nico under his wing, transforming his garage into a sanctuary for them.
