Episode 7 of "Will Trent" kicks off with an intense scene: Will lies unconscious on the back of a railway track, clutching a blood-stained handkerchief. A voice pierces through the fog of his disoriented mind, urging him to rise. With a arduous effort, he cracks open his eyelids, yet his consciousness remains elusive.
Flashing back to the previous day, we find Will at his abode, attempting to whip up a lamb dish for his pampered pooch, Betty. Betty, adorned in an quaint outfit, prompts Will to ponder why he, a grown man, finds himself caring for a fully dressed dog. Betty's curiosity leads her to munch on a piece of paper, which Will swiftly snatches away. His keen eyes decipher it as an instructional leaflet for a pregnancy test, sparking a whirlwind of thoughts in his mind.
Just as he's lost in contemplation, a knock at the door disrupts his reverie. To his surprise, it's Amanda, his formidable boss. Will voices the need for clearer boundaries between them, but Amanda swiftly diverts the conversation, revealing a pressing issue. She mentions the Confederate Front, a Neo-Nazi militant group that's been actively recruiting new members. To compound matters, a container filled with missing firearms has gone missing, leading both to suspect a connection between the cases. Amanda warns that if the guns fall into the wrong hands, they could empower a militia, resulting in untold casualties among innocent civilians.
Before Will can digest this information, another knock echoes through the hallway. He half-jokingly asks Amanda if they're hosting a brunch, but his query falls flat as Faith enters. Amanda teases Faith for her tardiness, while Faith inquiries about coffee, to which Will responds by gesturing towards the freshly brewed pot in his kitchen. Will's discomfort with these unannounced visitors is palpable.
Amanda assigns Will and Faith the task of investigating the Atkins Co. container yard. Will's dismay deepens upon learning that Babs, the yard's manager, has been forewarned of their visit. Heading back to the kitchen, Will finds Faith holding the pregnancy test instructional paper, which she nonchalantly comments on before announcing her intention to wait for him in the car.
Will attempts to reach Angie but encounters difficulties in connecting with her. In a vivid flashback, a youthful Will is seen trying to sneakily remove an item from a bag, while a young Angie anxiously awaits his actions. Together, they bolt, hotwire a car, and speed away.
Upon arriving at the yard, Will and Faith are escorted around by Babs. Faith inquiries about a pregnancy kit instruction sheet she spotted on Will's kitchen counter, but Will remains tight-lipped about it. Babs introduces them to Taki Georgiou, the terminal grounds person who oversees inventory and maintenance, and who was responsible for the missing container.
Faith presses Taki for information and insights. Taki recounts that a truck arrived with the appropriate waybill to collect a container, but it was nowhere to be found in the yard despite Babs' assurance of a 99.9% location accuracy.
Intrigued by the numbers on one of the containers, Will climbs atop it. Babs tries to intervene, instructing Taki to bring him down, but Faith halts Taki's actions. While inspecting the container, Will detects something amiss and, upon deeper investigation, realizes that an employee had manipulated the container numbers.
This revelation elucidates how a container filled with guns went missing, as the perpetrator altered the number and discreetly drove it out without detection. It hints that a member of the Confederate Front might have been employed at the company and orchestrated the theft. During his thorough search of the container yard, Will stumbles upon a concealed corpse in a secluded corner, later identified as Jed, a logistics coordinator.
Meanwhile, Angie and Ormewood accompany the coroner at the Atlanta Police Department morgue. The coroner explains how Roland Wynders was fatally shot in a skirmish outside a sneaker store during the highly anticipated release of a new collection.
Ormewood mentions confidently that they possess both eyewitnesses and motives, hinting at a case that seems cut and dried. He then proceeds to interrogate the store manager, Lou Lou. She reveals that the victim had just bagged the last pair of sneakers when an intruder burst in, fired a shot, and bolted out with the footwear. Lou Lou harbors suspicions towards Pun’kin, a sneaker reseller and her rival, who was present in the store and had caused quite a commotion.
However, Angie is momentarily taken off guard when Lou Lou addresses Ormewood by his first name, Michael. As Angie departs, Lou Lou leans in to Ormewood, stressing that he owes her a favor. She insists that her store's reputation for safety must not be tarnished. Ormewood assures her that they will resolve the case swiftly.
Outside, Angie encounters a man named Jerry Kilargis. He shares with her that he witnessed the shooter, who was clad in a hoodie. Jerry specifies that the shooter wore basic sneakers. In return, Angie introduces Jerry Kilargis to the ongoing investigation.
In the meantime, Faith reveals to Will that Jed Pipski, the deceased, served as a logistics coordinator with no apparent ties to the Confederate Front but maintained an unusually frequent phone contact with Babs. Curiously, Babs never mentioned Jed being absent for three days. Noticing Will's preoccupation, Faith inquiries if his thoughts are entangled with the pregnancy test, to which Will remains tight-lipped.
Babs, the yard manager, is then summoned for questioning and breaks down in tears, sharing that the entire yard is in mourning over Jed’s passing. They intend to pay tribute to him that very evening at The Truck Stop, a local watering hole. She confesses to an affair with Jed and acknowledges seeing him on the fateful night he vanished. Furthermore, she divulges that Craig McDonald, one of the workers, sports a Confederate Front tattoo on his arm and will be present at The Truck Stop that night, identifiable by his ink.
Will elucidates to Amanda that Jed might have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Amanda, recognizing the escalating threat posed by the Confederate Front, tasks Will with finding evidence to apprehend McDonald.
Elsewhere, during Pun’kin's interrogation, Ormewood accuses him of criminal activity and nearly apprehends him. Meanwhile, Angie stealthily captures a photo of the reseller’s pricey sneakers without detection. She hastens to inform Ormewood outside, highlighting the discrepancy between the suspect’s footwear and the description provided by Kilargis. Ormewood, however, insists that stolen sneakers were discovered in Pun’kin’s vehicle, solidifying his intent to arrest him shortly. He chastises Angie for undermining their seemingly straightforward case.
In the GBIs' offices, Will confronts Amanda, revealing that Craig had once been incarcerated at Central State Prison, a sanctuary for adherents of the Confederate cause. Amanda urges Will to act swiftly, warning that the Confederate Front is equally active in their pursuits.
As Will steps into the elevator, his mind drifts back to their escapade from their foster parents' home. He recalls pleading with Angie to report their foster father to the authorities, but she dismissed the idea, asserting that the police were powerless to intervene. Will vowed to take matters into his own hands, prompting Angie to halt the car and question why he'd jeopardize his future over their foster father's misdeeds.
Later, Will seeks Angie out, inquiring about the pregnancy kit instructions she had in her possession. He cautiously inquires if she is pregnant, and Angie responds that she hasn't completed the test, leaving uncertainty about her status.
Outside, Will's thoughts return to a tender moment shared with Angie, where they sat beside a river, her head resting on his shoulder. Meanwhile, Angie, also lost in contemplation, is interrupted by Ormewood's inquiry about Polaski, prompting her to depart.
At a local bar, Jed and Faith's party is in full swing, with Will among the attendees. Suddenly, a altercation erupts, resulting in Take being ejected from the premises. Faith chases after Taki, while Will tails Craig. Attempting to confront Craig, Will finds himself surrounded by Confederate Front members who turn their aggression towards him.
In the fray, Will sustains injuries but manages to slip into a truck for cover. Using a handkerchief to touch the back of his head, he discovers blood and soon loses consciousness, the scene left tense and uncertain.
Faith urgently dials Amanda, her voice trembling as she imparts the gravity of the situation: Will is missing, she's discovered his gun, and she was tailing a member of the Confederate Front. Amanda's face crumbles, and she sinks into a chair, her eyes brimming with despair. Faith, sensing the urgency, requests backup, to which Amanda responds by pledging to deploy the entire Georgia Bureau of Investigation for the search operation. Amanda entrusts Faith with the mission of tracking down the missing firearms, fearing that the Confederate Front's aggression towards law enforcement heralds something sinister on the horizon.
After clocking out, Angie trudges home, her voice echoing through the empty rooms as she calls for Will, her heart sinking when there's no reply. Her phone buzzes, and Amanda's voice breaks through the silence, informing her of Will's disappearance. Amanda advises her to stay put in case Will returns, emphasizing the possibility that he might need medical assistance. Left alone with her thoughts, Angie ponders on Will's unwavering belief in her goodness and wonders if marriage has crossed his mind. She confesses her heartfelt desire for Will's return, her mind drifting back to their shared past—a night spent in a park as teenagers, pledging unwavering loyalty until they turned 18. Their tender kiss was abruptly cut short by the approach of a police car, forcing them to flee into the night.
Meanwhile, Will's consciousness flickers, a young Angie's voice whispering in his ear, urging him to awaken. He finds himself amidst the Neo-Nazi compound, where armed men prepare for battle. The next morning, Ormewood visits Angie at the police station, his concerned gaze noting her evident exhaustion and anxiety.
Captain demands the latest updates regarding the homicide of Roland, to which Ormewood responds by announcing that Pun’kin is on the brink of being processed. Meanwhile, Angie presents her online research findings, shedding light on a crucial detail: the Bobos discovered at the crime scene originated from the Georgia State Penitentiary—a facility from which Billy Thompson was recently released, merely a week prior, whereas Roland had regained his freedom a couple of years ago. She underscores the urgency of pursuing this lead before condemning Pun’kin unnecessarily, and the captain concurs with her assessment.
Though driven by noble intentions, Angie inadvertently provokes Ormewood by bypassing him and questioning his tactics, which hinge on incriminating an innocent individual solely based on the testimony of a woman harboring romantic intentions towards him. Infuriated, Ormewood hurls his coffee cup against the wall, barking at Angie to drop the matter before storming away in a rage.
In a separate scenario, Faith bursts in to interrogate Taki, with Amanda silently observing the proceedings. During the interrogation, Taki confesses that Craig brutally assaulted Jed to death and provides a plausible location where Will might be hiding. Will, nestled inside a truck, attempts to use his flip phone but finds it dead and useless.
Elsewhere, Faith and her team descend upon the warehouse harboring illegal firearms and apprehend one individual. Upon inspecting the premises, Faith discovers that several guns are missing and demands explanations.
As Angie persists in her pursuit of Billy Thompson, it seems he will narrowly escape her grasp until Ormewood abruptly tackles him, enabling Angie to seize the suspect’s firearm—none other than the murder weapon itself.
With silent stealth, Will exited the truck and crept cautiously towards the Neo-Nazi group, who were meticulously rehearsing with their rifles, their movements synchronized and menacing. Meanwhile, McDonald unveiled his sinister plot to disrupt a peaceful demonstration calling for the removal of a Confederate statue, with the express intent of ambushing an impending protest.
Upon stumbling upon an unloaded firearm, Will made a split-second decision. Instead of resorting to the ineffective weapon, he opted for his trusty tape recorder. With a heartfelt sincerity, he captured an audio testament, acknowledging the rashness of his actions and offering an apology to Angie for their recent dispute. He vowed to raise their child alongside a remarkable woman like her, one he cherished deeply.
Having completed his emotional message, Will burst into the Neo-Nazi gathering, seizing one member at gunpoint and commanding the others to surrender, emphasizing their encirclement. McDonald, with his malicious grin, mocked Will's harmless weapon, but the detective stood firm, bravely risking his life. Just as the Neo-Nazi commander prepared to unleash his loaded firearm upon Will, the special forces unit arrived in the nick of time, apprehending the criminals and rescuing Will from harm.
Faith quickly embraced her partner and coordinated medical assistance for him, ensuring their safe return to the bureau. Amanda handed him a statement detailing the expenses incurred in his rescue and requested that he stay for a debriefing before departing. Unbeknownst to the others, her tears of relief silently streamed down her face.
Elsewhere, Angie was overjoyed to see Will. A flashback revealed Will waiting patiently outside a clinic for Angie, presenting her with a comforting teddy bear after her abortion. Grateful for his unwavering support, she thanked him, and he reassured her of his ever-present commitment to her.
Angie pays a visit to Ormewood, conveying the weighty news that Billy has confessed to Roland's murder, and expresses her heartfelt gratitude for his earlier demonstration of concern. Ormewood, in turn, offers an apology for his earlier outbursts, acknowledging his struggles with anger and revealing that he is actively working to overcome them.
Later, in a moment fraught with anticipation, Angie waits for the results of her pregnancy test, poised to confide her innermost thoughts to Will. However, the news she receives shatters her hopes; she is not pregnant. The couple embraces, their shared disappointment palpable, and once Angie exits the room, Will discreetly peels off the tape from his recorder, concealing it within the recesses of his desk drawer.
