Will Trent – Season 2 Episode 1 1

Upon arriving at the crime scene, Trent's sharp eyes spy a gleaming diamond earring discarded on the ground. He promptly instructs Ormewood to secure it as crucial evidence, sparking their usual banter. The duo is soon joined by Franklin and Amanda, who pressure them to expedite their efforts amidst demands for answers from the mayor, media, and federal agents. Amanda, keen to resolve the case swiftly, is under immense scrutiny.

Enter Cricket, a bomb expert whose expertise sheds light on the incident. She assures the team that while the bombing is deliberate, it bears no terrorist ties. Intrigued by Trent, she reveals herself as an admirer of his work, flattering him while his mind wanders to haunting childhood memories. Flashbacks of his younger self surface, recalling a turbulent scene at the foster home where he was beseeched for help amidst squabbling foster parents.

In another thread of the narrative, Angie reappears, having undergone arduous physical therapy to regain her mobility after a severe injury. Now seemingly much improved, she finds herself entangled in a relationship with her doctor. Eager to resume her duties despite her unreadiness, she coerces him into signing papers clearing her for work by threatening to expose their intimate relationship to the medical board. Cornered, the doctor capitulates but warns her of lingering nerve pain in her arm and the importance of passing her physical exam.

Meanwhile, Trent interviews the victim's wife, piecing together that her husband was not the intended target. The bomber's mistake in identifying houses and cars reveals the actual target as Arthur Highsmith, an accountant residing on the same block and driving a maroon car. Trent confronts Arthur, who appears anxious to depart, evasive in his responses, and attempts to flee. With swift action, Trent tackles him and escorts him for interrogation.

Returning to the unfolding saga, Arthur steadfastly refuses to divulge to Trent and Faith the identity of his pursuer. Despite their utmost efforts, he stands firm in his conviction that he harbors no enemies. While conceding to some financial woes, Arthur insists they are inconsequential enough to warrant murder. Trent kindly proposes he lay low at the police station, but Arthur is resolute in his refusal.

Introduced into this intricate tapestry is Luke, a new character whose brief but fiery one-night stand with Faith left him puzzled by her subsequent disappearance. His nonchalant demeanor only heightens curiosity about their hidden history.

After Arthur's departure, Trent and Faith tail him to a cozy cafe, where they observe him savoring his breakfast. Interrupting his meal, they notice a suspicious bag in his possession. Arthur insists it contains mere socks and a spare pair of pants, but Trent's instincts tell him otherwise—he's convinced it's laden with cash. Simultaneously, Faith receives a call from Franklin, alerting her to a vehicle spotted at the bombing site. As Arthur prepares to depart, a blue car screeches into view and opens fire, causing the money in his bag to scatter like confetti.

In a swift maneuver, Arthur snatches the fluttering bills and entrusts the bag to Trent, revealing that the money must be deposited in a specific bank to spare his imprisoned son's life. It transpires that Arthur has been under threat, with extortionists demanding half a million shillings monthly or else his son would pay with his life. Intriguingly, a week prior, a woman approached him at the bank, confessing she too was enduring the same ordeal and seeking an alliance. Faith vows to retrieve bank surveillance footage to track down this woman.

Elsewhere, Ormewood's suspicions about his wife intensify after learning from their children about her frequent visits to a neighbor. Seeking counsel from Angie and Franklin, they suggest confronting her directly. Instead, Ormewood opts to plant a tracker on her car.

The following day, Cricket visits Trent's office, catching sight of unwanted gifts piling up. Trent brushes off her inquiries, prompting her to steer the conversation towards his flickering desk lamp and their ongoing case. While tinkering with the lamp, she shares her insights—the use of C4 and bombing techniques hint at Russian involvement. They reminisce about their childhood and Trent's dating status, with Cricket attempting to flirt subtly. When Trent fails to catch her hints, she boldly confesses her romantic feelings, only to be gently rejected on grounds of professionalism. Their conversation is abruptly cut short by Faith, who informs Trent that Arthur is on a video call with his terrified son, reassuring him of his efforts to ensure his safety. Arthur's son, confined to solitary confinement for his protection, appears visibly terrified.

Drawing on the information gleaned by the police thus far, Trent suspects that the entire blackmailing scheme might be orchestrated from within the confines of Georgia State Prison. Determined to uncover more, he sets off to meet Angie, seeking insights into her previous case. She, too, had delved into the murky world of a prison gang but lamented that not a single soul had come forward to snitch, everyone terrified of a grim fate. Lightening the mood, Angie teases Trent about joining her for a dip in the pool, where their conversation veers into the complexities of dating amidst personal turmoil. An argument ensues over their differing approaches to dealing with their individual traumas; Trent believes Angie is rushing her recovery and isn't mentally prepared to rejoin the force, while Angie counters that Trent hasn't fully come to terms with his own experiences.

Elsewhere, Luke grapples with Faith's sudden distancing. He pays her a visit at her office, armed with pertinent details about their case and a bottle of rye as a gesture of goodwill. Over drinks, they reminisce about their wild escapades, with Faith acknowledging Luke's promiscuous nature yet indulging in another tryst with him at her workplace.

The following day, the blue vehicle used in the drive-by shooting is discovered and brought in for forensic examination. Amanda informs Trent and Faith that the identity of the woman from the bank has been established – her name is Emily. The scene shifts to Emily, just as she's about to step into her car, receiving a frantic call from Trent warning her of a bomb planted inside. Fortunately, it hasn't detonated yet.

A rush ensues to reach Emily, with Cricket swiftly engaging in the delicate task of defusing the bomb. Meanwhile, Trent maintains a calming presence beside Emily, conducting an interview. She confesses that her brother has been under threat, prompting her to send money in an attempt to keep him safe. She also mentions having contacted others from the same prison family support group, prompting the police to spring into action to rescue the remaining three individuals. In a tense sequence, Cricket successfully disables the bomb, prompting Trent to seize the moment and ask her out on a date.

Meanwhile, Faith and Ormewood collaborate to scrutinize the blue car after its impoundment, yet their efforts yield no fruitful discoveries. Undeterred, Faith chooses to pursue Luke's clues, ultimately uncovering the bombers and the materials they utilized for their deadly craft. As they meticulously examine these items, Cricket joins them, and they stumble upon an encrypted message dispatched 18 hours prior to the bomb's detonation. The cryptic language and code within the message validate Trent's hypothesis: someone is orchestrating events from behind prison bars.

Elsewhere, Ormewood's wife unexpectedly visits their son due to a sudden change in her schedule, revealing that he has been skipping classes to indulge in Xbox games. Ormewood realizes his misunderstanding, having mistakenly accused his wife of driving the suspicious car during her alleged affair. He confesses his suspicions to her, which she confirms, adding that her lover is in fact their neighbor. She abruptly departs, stating they would discuss the matter later at home. the father to shout back, after which he retreats to a quiet room to complete his homework.

Switching focus back to Trent and Faith, they attempt to decode the message and come to a startling realization: the impounded car harbors a bomb. In a rush to evacuate the premises, Ormewood struggles to locate his son but finds him just moments before the bomb's explosion, allowing them to reconcile amidst the chaos.

Concurrently, Cricket and Trent strive to defuse the bomb. To concentrate better, Cricket inquires about the unwanted gifts Trent has been receiving, to which he responds they are from James, who fears Trent might be his son. Trent, apprehensive about the potential DNA test results, hesitates. Cricket encourages him to face the truth, reassuring him that the outcome will not diminish his identity.

Regrettably, Cricket fails to defuse the bomb, which features a collapsible socket, reactivating timers each time a switch is disabled, with each subsequent timer granting less time than the last. To distract Trent, Cricket assigns him another task and races away with the bomb, isolating it from other vehicles. Tragically, she perishes when the bomb explodes.

Cricket's demise fuels Trent's anger, preventing him from processing the loss. His mind continuously reverts to memories of his youthful days in a foster home, where the children implore him for help. Amanda tries to persuade him to take a break, but Trent is resolute in solving the case. Donning his finest attire, he sets out to confront James, who is incarcerated at Georgia State Prison.
