Will Trent – Season 2 Episode 2 1

Switching focus to Trent, his conversation with James proves fruitful. With his persuasive skills, Trent manages to convince James to aid in flushing out the prisoners involved. Initially, James was reluctant, but he eventually came around. Conversely, Miles is terrified of speaking out, believing that the prison walls have ears and eyes. He discreetly writes on Faith's notepad that he senses they are being watched. The attackers wear masks, making it impossible for him to identify them. However, he suspects their cells are located nearby.

With James's cooperation, Trent and Faith zero in on a prisoner named Mackie, who played a part in conveying messages to the bombers outside. They discover the phone used to call the bombers in his possession. In a bid to save himself, Mackie quickly implicates his so-called boss, Flash. The two detectives track Flash down in the clinic and question him. However, Flash denies any involvement and refuses to speak in private, fearing accusations of snitching.

Trent orders Flash to be confined to solitary confinement. Faith begins to worry that Trent's frustration and anger are clouding his judgment in the case. Trent, however, remains steadfast, hopeful of finding a paper trail that will lead them to the culprits. Unfortunately, the outlook remains grim at this juncture.

Elsewhere, Ormewood finds himself at home with his family. His son is struggling to cope in the aftermath of the bomb, prompting Ormewood's mother, Gina, to call the school and offer to submit his science project for grading. To their surprise, they learn that he never completed it. Frustrated, Gina leaves, and Ormewood attempts to help his son with the project. They bond over this shared endeavor, discussing the state of Gina and Ormewood's marriage. Ormewood expresses his willingness to forgive his wife and work on their relationship. He later confronts her, apologizing for being a poor husband. He promises to put in the effort to save their marriage if she is willing to stick it out. Gina remains uncertain about her feelings, and Ormewood agrees to give her time to think it over.

Simultaneously, Angie and Amanda join forces to rescue Joey, whose spirits soared with the anticipation of his fresh employment opportunity. However, his elation was short-lived as his new supervisor, Walsh, coerced him into partaking in drugs at one of his decadent bashes. Throughout this perilous endeavor, Amanda and Angie forged an unbreakable bond, with Amanda harboring fears that Angie's reckless tendencies might lead her into harm's way. She dreaded the prospect of Trent's wrath should she fail to deter Angie from her impulsive actions.

Ultimately, Amanda deemed Angie capable once more of returning to active duty. Following their triumph in saving Joey, Amanda encountered Crystal, whose mother had deserted her, relocating to a distant town. Crystal happened to be among those apprehended at Walsh's lawless gathering. Angie stepped in decisively, compelling Crystal to share her new contact number, pledging to reach out promptly to navigate their shared complexities.

Back at Georgia State Prison, a grim scenario unfolded as Mackie met his untimely demise, while Trent meticulously ensured the crime scene remained intact. In a rush to converse with Flash, Faith discovered him lifeless in solitary confinement, an obvious setup for suicide that further irked Trent. Yet, considering the circumstances, Faith and Trent revisited their earlier conversation with Flash at the clinic. Upon reviewing the surveillance footage, they noticed an unusual interaction between the nurse, Edna, and Jack, a serial killer who targeted housewives.

They instructed Hawley to summon Edna, only to learn her shift had ended. Perplexingly, the system indicated she was still within the prison premises. Hawley was entrusted with locating her, while Trent sought insights into Jack from James, his former client. Throughout these developments, Faith noticed Hawley appearing ailing, struggling to draw breath, though he dismissed it as mere stress.

As Trent engages in conversation with James, the lights abruptly flicker off, plunging them into darkness, accompanied by a mysterious message echoing through the air. It becomes evident that Edna is aiding Jack in his bid for escape. Unfortunately for Trent, he finds himself imprisoned alongside James, who reminisces about his late mother, professing a belief that Trent is family and expressing a desire to reconcile. However, beneath his facade lies an ulterior motive. James introduces an uncle, the sole surviving relative from Trent's maternal line, revealing the man's name. This triggers a furious reaction from Trent, who is overcome by a haunting vision of his younger self fleeing from a grisly scene. Snapping back to reality, Trent threatens James, demanding the disclosure of Edna's message to Jack at last. It transpires that the lovers intend to flee via the ambulance bay.

Hawley, overwhelmed by the prison breakout chaos, suffers a cardiac arrest. In a moment of desperation, Faith persuades another inmate to assist her in saving Hawley's life. She manages to reach Trent through a phone line, imparting Edna's escape plan. Trent rushes to the ambulance bay, only to discover Edna's lifeless body. It becomes clear that James manipulated her affections, never possessing genuine love for her. With Miles held hostage, James issues a dire threat. Trent, capitalizing on Faith's unexpected arrival as a diversion, rescues Miles. Nevertheless, Jack manages to elude capture and corners Trent.

As Trent grapples with Jack, Faith struggles to revive Hawley. Out of nowhere, James emerges and slays Jack. Having managed to unlock his prison door once the lights were restored, he justifying his actions by thinking one more death wouldn't matter. He claims to have killed Jack for Trent's sake, but this is merely a lie. In truth, he did it for his own ambitions. With Jack, Flash, and Mackie deceased, James asserts his claim to the prison's throne.

The episode concludes with Trent at home, where Nico attempts to discuss work matters with him. Trent insists he is alright, emphasizing that this is the work he chose and is coping with the trauma in his unique way. He volunteers to teach Nico how to mend things around the house. As the scene pans out, it becomes apparent that Trent has already embarked on investigating the uncle mentioned by James.
