Will Trent – Season 4 Episode 4 1

Will Trent, Faith, Amanda, and Pete are promptly called to the scene. Pete and Trent quickly deduce that Catalina was poisoned. Faith expresses concern about the late hour and the potential exhaustion of the witnesses, emphasizing that it might be challenging to secure a translator in time. Despite her concerns, Trent insists on keeping everyone at the crime scene for interrogation, confidently asserting that his two-year Spanish class would suffice. Unfortunately, his confidence is met with ridicule as his attempts at communication result in confusion and laughter.

Eventually, after much confusion and nod-offs, they learn that Catalina was a highly skilled dancer, set to compete in the upcoming Atlanta salsa dancing competition alongside her partner, Javi. Javi reveals that they were at the club to unwind with other dancers. However, the real insight comes from Bon Bon, who mentions that Catalina had stolen Roxy's dance partner, Javi. Apparently, there was bad blood between Roxy and Catalina, which was common knowledge among the dancers. Bon Bon leads Faith and Trent to the make-up room, where they discover that Catalina was poisoned through her makeup.

Faith suggests releasing the witnesses, but Trent insists they are not done yet. He makes a fool of himself as he takes to the DJ stand to announce in his limited Spanish that they are keeping them for a few more hours.

At the station, Ormewood and Angie arrive for their morning shift. Heller tasks them with dealing with two students from a criminology class who are investigating a cold case - the murder of Beverly Rutledge, which occurred in her home back in 2023. The case has remained unsolved until now.

At the time, the police zeroed in on Beverly's halfway house, completely overlooking Toni Hollis' witness statement. They dismissed her as an unreliable source due to her intermittent drug abuse. However, Toni claimed to have seen a man in a yellow Cutlass tailing her on the night of the murder.

Kaia and Brooks, the determined students, delved into the investigation and discovered that the local county police were searching for a man driving the same type of car at the time of Beverly's death. Angie and Kaia joined forces to sift through old case files, while Ormewood and Brooks pursued leads involving Brooks.

Back at the club, Trent danced with Roxy as he grilled her about Catalina's murder. Roxy insisted on her innocence, claiming that Catalina was always causing trouble and that she didn't care about Javi. Isabella, the competition sponsor's wife, interrupted to inform Trent that Faith was looking for him. It turned out that Javi had confessed to killing Catalina and was brought downtown for further interrogation. However, based on his vague answers, they realized he wasn't their killer. They suspected that someone had paid him to take the blame.

In the storage room, Kaia expressed frustration with the state of the evidence boxes. But they found a lead and sent a voice note to Ormewood and Brooks. They discovered a partial number plate which led them to Wayne, who had multiple charges of domestic abuse. They decided to set up a stakeout to see what Wayne was up to.

Meanwhile, Trent enlists Roxy to delve deeper into the questions after discovering that the poisoned makeup belonged to her. Roxy insists that Catalina had stolen the makeup, but Trent realizes that Roxy was the intended target. However, she refuses to admit if she's in trouble.

Elsewhere, the stakeout team gets a break when Wayne finally discards a chewed gum. It's a relief to Kaia and Brooks, who had been complaining after only 45 minutes of waiting.

Frustrated by the case, Trent vents to Dr. Roach about his cultural identity crisis. He's going through an identity crisis, and it's affecting how he's dealing with the case. Dr. Roach encourages him to embrace his cultural identity and push through.

Back at the station, Angie and her team learn that Wayne's DNA is linked to three unsolved rape cases. However, he's not Rutledge's killer. Kaia and Brooks are disappointed they didn't solve a murder. Angie decides it's time to bring in Toni.

Simultaneously, Trent and Faith bring in Bon Bon for more information. He tells them about the possibility of Roxy having an affair with Ramos. They start to wonder if Isabela tried to kill Roxy over the alleged affair.

However, they're running out of time as the Delgados are set to leave for Colombia after the finals. They also have diplomatic immunity. Using the guise of filling in the Delgados on their latest findings, Angie invites them to the station. Trent sees the tattoo on Isabela and realizes they were wrong about the affair. It turns out Isabela and Roxy are the ones having an affair.

Sadly, Isabela is too scared of Ramos to talk to Trent. Fortunately, Trent refuses to give up. In another room, Toni reveals that she had told Rutledge about the sexual oppression the women at the halfway house were undergoing at the hands of Jim, the house manager. Rutledge had promised to put a stop to it, but a day later, she was found dead.

It also turns out that Jim drove a yellow Cutlass at the time. Angie reaches out to the relevant authorities to get an arrest warrant for Jim. However, Kaia decides it's a good idea to stop by Jim's house to collect his DNA on her way to get the team's coffee. She sends Ormewood a voice note, and he ignores it until Brooks forces him to listen to it. Upon realizing she's in danger, the team rushes to save her. Thankfully, they arrive in time. They arrest Jim and charge him with murder.

Ahead of the final dance competition, Trent confronts Ramos. Out of pride, Ramos boasts about being above the law and throws his diplomatic immunity in Trent's face. It turns out Trent had already done some digging and found out that Ramos had poisoned a political rival using the same poison. By the time Ramos realizes he's cooked, Trent has recorded him admitting he killed Catalina by accident. Faith comes in with police officers since they already had the Colombian government revoke Ramos' diplomatic immunity.

With Ramos facing his charges on US soil, Roxy and Isabela are free from him and can live happily. The episode ends with Trent dancing Salsa with Betty, symbolizing his cultural embrace and resolution in his personal and professional life.
