The eighth episode of "Would You Marry Me" begins with Me-ri's mother pondering how long her daughter will be out with Woo-joo. It transpires that Me-ri had returned home earlier to change, mentioning that Woo-joo is in town. Meanwhile, Me-ri and Woo-joo are strolling through the fields on a starry night, as Woo-joo opens up about his life post-accident. He reveals that he once visited Me-ri's house but left before seeing her.

Me-ri is taken aback as she pieces together the memories. She reassures Woo-joo yet again that neither she nor her mother holds his family responsible for her father's death. As they lie on the ground, staring at the stars and occasionally kissing, they laugh off the incident of Woo-joo tripping on a stone and falling. How romantic!
In Seoul, Jin-gyeong can't help but think about her last conversation with Woo-joo, in which he was visibly upset that she had tried to dismiss his feelings for Me-ri as mere guilt. Woo-joo, without mincing his words, had clarified that he liked Me-ri and warned Jin-gyeong to stay out of his business. Sang-hyuk spots her wallowing in her misery ahead of a night run and comforts her, telling her that it was better to confess and get rejected. He challenges her to a run to distract her. After the run, Jin-gyeong starts crying over how she has only made things worse with Woo-joo.
In the quaint village, Young-sook extends a warm welcome to Woo-joo, preparing a cozy room for him. Later in the evening, Woo-joo discreetly texts Me-ri, requesting her to pay him a visit to his room. It transpires that he harbors a fear of insects and implores her to dispatch one for him. His affection for her deepens as she bravely attends to the bug. Young-sook returns with a mosquito coil, and Woo-joo cunningly conceals Me-ri within his bed, resulting in them spending a significant portion of the night together.
The following morning, Young-sook prepares an elaborate meal, typically reserved for a son-in-law on his first visit. She doesn't give Me-ri or Woo-joo an opportunity to play coy or hide their relationship. As they partake in their breakfast, she urges Woo-joo to cherish and treat Me-ri with love, warning him that she will not tolerate any mistreatment from his family.
Woo-joo assures her that he will always take care of Me-ri. Later, the trio visits Me-ri's father's grave to pay their respects. Young-sook thanks her husband for saving Woo-joo and securing their daughter a partner.
Me-ri's sister initiates a video call and is astonished to see a transformed Woo-joo standing by Me-ri's side.
After the visit, Young-sook packs some food for the couple. As they assist her in the packing, Young-sook feels a subtle shyness watching the affectionate pair.
Before departing for Seoul, Me-ri and Woo-joo take a stroll along the beach. Me-ri informs Woo-joo that she is ready to abandon the house and seek alternative means to pay off her debts. She asks for his patience, but he insists on being by her side regardless of the circumstances. In truth, Me-ri desires to shield Woo-joo from any harm that may stem from her past mistakes.
Elsewhere in the narrative, Min-yeon meticulously prepares Han-gu's belongings for his impending American journey, urging him to bring Eung-soo along the next time. Her subtle hint was a manifestation of her hope that Han-gu would nurture their son towards a directorial role in the nascent American venture. As they drove to the airport, Eung-soo's anxious demeanor suggested that he held something back, seemingly aware of his father's affair.
Upon returning to Seoul, Woo-joo and Me-ri strolled into a home decor store, where Woo-joo pleaded with Me-ri to surprise their mother with a new kitchen. Their browsing was interrupted by Woo-ju's meddlesome mother and sister, who promptly snapped a candid picture of the couple and sent it to their good-for-nothing brother. Woo-ju, with his mischievous intentions, set his sights on getting Woo-joo fired from Myunsoondang upon his discharge. Initially dismissed by security, he managed to sneak inside and overheard the revelation that Woo-joo was the expected heir of the company. Realizing his antics wouldn't achieve his goal, Woo-ju turned to a karaoke club for solace, his dramatic flair evident in his choice of escapism.
Meanwhile, Mi-yeon confronted her mother for always favoring Woo-joo and his father, vowing revenge if Pil-nyeon continued to overlook her family. Pil-nyeon tried to explain herself, but Mi-yeon stormed out in disbelief. In America, Han-gu indulged in a glass of wine with his mistress, both eagerly anticipating the fall of Pil-nyeon and her company. Back in Korea, Woo-joo and Me-ri continued their secretive romance in the office, Woo-joo's love-struck state evident in his clingy behavior. Nevertheless, he made Me-ri happy, which was all that mattered. On a separate note, Pil-nyeon invited the marketing team to her home for a meal, where Woo-joo also included Me-ri. The lunch was an enjoyable affair until Pil-nyeon mentioned her value for honesty in all things, crediting her success to her honesty in the kitchen. This revelation put a strain on Me-ri and Woo-joo as they left, encountering Jin-gyeong on their way out. Me-ri was saddened by how warmly Pil-nyeon welcomed Jin-gyeong, and it didn't help that gossip started circulating within the marketing group about Woo-joo's supposed upcoming engagement with Jin-gyeong.
Returning to Pil-nyeon's abode, Jin-gyeong fabricates a lie, claiming her romantic feelings for Woo-joo have faded away. Meanwhile, Woo-joo's mother relentlessly urges him to settle the insurance claim following his accident. With a heavy heart, Woo-joo complies, remembering that Me-ri had also enrolled him in an insurance policy at some point.
Reaching out to the company, he discovers that Me-ri is the beneficiary, as she is the one who pays for the insurance. Woo-joo, driven by his avarice once again, decides to seek the money. The insurance agent advises him to bring proof of his divorce if he desires to change the beneficiary of his insurance policy.
That evening, Woo-joo calls Me-ri, requesting permission to visit her and discuss something. Me-ri eagerly prepares herself for his arrival.
Unfortunately, Woo-joo arrives at her doorstep with proof that they are not divorced. He inquires whether she has been enjoying her phony marriage with the real Woo-joo, a chilling reminder of the artificiality of their union.
