Eun-jung, in a huff, informs Sang-yeon of her split with Sang-hak, leaving it at that.

You and Everything Else – K-drama Episode 8 1

The following morning, Eun-jung packs her bags and embarks on a solitary hike through the mountains, lost in her thoughts. Sang-yeon, finally realizing the depth of her friend's knowledge about her first love, returns home late at night to face Eun-jung's questioning about her lies.

Here, Sang-yeon confesses the truth about her one-sided feelings (though they were not entirely unrequited), but Eun-jung is furious, believing that Sang-yeon has made her an obstacle in her path with Sang-hak. Eun-jung's accusations dig deep, uncovering how Sang-yeon used her brother as an excuse to spend more time with Sang-hak. However, if Sang-yeon were to be completely truthful, it would also mean admitting the truth about Moonhee. Instead, she chooses to preserve the memory of her brother by destroying their friendship.

Eun-jung, too, is unwilling to discuss Sang-hak, opting for a break from it all and heading to her mother's for some time away. But Sang-yeon shows up, determined to confess the truth about everything, including Cheon Sang-hak. It's her attempt to mend what's broken, though it seems a bit too late in the grand scheme of things.

Kim Sang-hak has wrought a betrayal upon Eun-jung, sealing her out with lies and a heart that yearns for her long-time friend. Forgiveness for such transgressions is not a light task, and Eun-jung grapples with the weight of these emotions as they eventually sit down to speak honestly with each other.

When their conversation does take place, Eun-jung addresses Sang-hak directly, inquiring about the allure he found in Sang-yeon. He confesses that his heart ached upon seeing her, a sentiment that could easily be misconstrued as mere pity. However, Eun-jung's inquiry goes beyond this, wanting to know if these feelings will fade and if they can salvage what remains. Yet, the underlying paranoia, anxiety, and worry persist.

Eun-jung desires an end to the turmoil and decides on a clean break from the past. Sang-hak, too, is visibly stricken and finds himself in tears, realizing that the special moments they once shared have been irrevocably tarnished.

Meanwhile, Sang-yeon receives a call from the doctors about her mother's fainting spell on the street. The medical bills that follow are not cheap, and Sang-yeon struggles financially to cover them. Sang-hak, sensing her discomfort, decides to take on the burden himself. However, Sang-yeon is uncomfortable with this gesture, fearing it is nothing more than a pity handout.

Sang-yeon resents herself for putting herself in this position and lashes out at her mother, blaming her for her brother's death by not accepting Sang-hak for who he truly was. The complexities of their relationships are further complicated by the financial burden and the emotional turmoil that comes with it.

The narrative swiftly advances us to March 2003, the first day of the academic year. Eun-jung finds herself contemplating a hiatus from school and the allure of employment. The pair's disagreements over living arrangements echo amidst an uneasy coexistence, with Sang-yeon yearning for friendship but clearly struggling. Eun-jung acknowledges the joy of their reconnection and renewed friendship, despite the turmoil, though it feels like an empty gesture.

Eun-jung submits her application for a break from studies while still contributing to the rent with Sang-yeon, a decision that does not sit well with her. However, Sang-yeon has greater concerns at hand. It emerges that her mother is terminally ill with cancer, and despite Yoon's apparent knowledge of this situation for some time, the end seems imminent.

At the hospital, Yoon apologizes to her daughter for the lonely years, but faced with her mother's impending passing, Sang-yeon has no one to turn to except Eun-jung. However, Eun-jung is in the cinema and chooses to ignore her phone, a decision that would later prove consequential.

The following day, A-ra informs Eun-jung that Sang-yeon has taken an entire semester off. She messages Eun-jung, requesting a meeting without revealing the exact reason for her sudden departure, though Eun-jung suspects it has something to do with Sang-hak. Given Sang-hak's own departure from the club, Eun-jung speculates this could be the case. However, Sang-yeon is irritated and slightly disgusted by her friend's assumption that she would pursue Sang-hak.

In a telling moment, Sang-yeon does not reveal the true reason for her mother's illness but instead lashes out at Eun-jung. She tells her that no one has made her feel more loathed than Eun-jung has. She continues, expressing a hope that they never cross paths again, effectively severing what remained of their relationship.

Sang-yeon keeps her word, seeing it as a matter of pride, and repays the money she believes she owes Eun-jung. When she receives an envelope of cash, she sends a message hoping they never see each other again. In the present, Sang-yeon shows up at Eun-jung's place, determined to face the past and potentially reconcile their differences.
