The ninth episode of "You and Everything Else" commences in the present, with Sang-yeon boldly invading Eun-jung's apartment as if she owns the place. She makes herself comfortable, seemingly ready to snooze on the sofa, unaware that Eun-jung is far from pleased. Eun-jung questions Sang-yeon's naivety, wondering if she truly believes that she can treat her like a doormat. The truth is, Sang-yeon harbors a shameless attitude towards this situation, seemingly unapologetic for her actions.
Despite Sang-yeon's claims of needing rest before leaving, Eun-jung is unimpressed, noting a pattern in Sang-yeon's behavior. Flashback to 2013, when Sang-yeon unexpectedly reappeared, causing a major disruption in Eun-jung's life who was not exactly thrilled about the reunion.
Two weeks prior to this fateful encounter, Eun-jung was thriving as a respected producer at JD Entertainment. She was immersed in a high-profile project, joined by her best friend, Hee-jin. As she navigated the intricacies of the industry, there was an uneasy moment when she brought on board Director Joo, who recommended Sang-hak as the cinematographer. It emerged that Sang-hak was exceptionally skilled at his job and was highly recommended for the project. Eun-jung had his number and hesitated before making the call, but eventually reached out to him.
Their lunch meeting was fraught with unspoken tension, with Eun-jung maintaining a professional demeanor while skillfully avoiding personal issues and showcasing their script, "Good Man," based on a popular webtoon. As preproduction kicked off, the company was eager to have Sang-hak on board.
Eun-jung is unyielding in her commitment to professionalism, confessing to Sang-hak that this demeanor will remain unwavering. However, the truth is that he still cherishes her deeply, a sentiment that is hinted at by Eun-jung herself, as evidenced by her creating a graduation film centered around him as the protagonist. Sang-hak agrees to join the project, and news swiftly spreads that Eun-jung's ex-boyfriend is involved. During the initial meeting, Joo confronts Eun-jung about her indifferent treatment, and both of them lie, eventually steering the conversation back to work. Eun-jung's passion and love for her craft are evident, and Sang-hak admires this in her. He is respectful enough to know that he should not cross boundaries, despite the lingering feelings between them.
However, when Joo is suddenly removed from the project at the last minute, things take a turn for the worse. This high-profile case falls back to Gyeong Seung-ju as the director. Eun-jung is shocked by the decision made without her and decides to go straight to CEO Hwang to try and rectify the situation. Inside the director's room, she unexpectedly encounters Sang-yeon again, who is also a producer on the project. Eun-jung is not pleased about this, especially since Sang-yeon is co-producing Good Man with her and they will be working closely together from now on. To make matters worse, Sang-yeon is being made executive producer on this project as a condition for Director Gyeong taking on the project. Eun-jung is devastated and feels like her whole world is crashing down around her. Despite this, she takes control of the situation and quits her job.
Despite quitting her job, Eun-jung does follow through on her conversation with Director Joo, giving solid advice on how to navigate the company and get what he wants. Joo eventually walks away, promising to storm JD Entertainment and demand his money or his script back. Eun-jung wallows in self-pity, staying in bed, barely eating, and sick with worry. However, Sang-yeon suddenly shows up. Eun-jung does not want anything to do with him and refuses to even listen to his explanation that he was unaware of the project's woes at JD.
As they sit in silence, Eun-jung's anger towards her former friend simmers beneath the surface. Sang-yeon, with a sudden turn, brings up the heart-wrenching truth that her mother has passed away. The mention of Ms. Yoon, a significant figure from Eun-jung's childhood, sends shockwaves through her.
Eun-jung is stunned, and her emotions are further stoked when Sang-yeon throws in the fact that she ignored her call to come to the hospital during that pivotal moment in their past. Though Sang-yeon admits she did this to force Eun-jung to lower her defenses, the hurt is palpable.
Sang-yeon continues, revealing that she didn't even attend Ms. Yoon's funeral, scattering her ashes across the sea instead. The thought of Eun-jung aggravates her further, and she doesn't want any part of her.
Despite this, Sang-yeon extends an olive branch, wanting Eun-jung to return to JD Entertainment. Her team has shunned her, and Sang-yeon knows little about the company's systems. She is apparently willing to relinquish the executive producer position and encourages Eun-jung to steer things back on track, using their rivalry as a motivating force to do so.
