Episode 7 of "Your Friends & Neighbors" kicks off with Coop once again indulging in theft, this time targeting diamonds. However, his illicit escapade is soon interrupted by a surreal sequence of visions: Nick, stark naked, tending to a stove; Christian savoring pancakes with relish; and even Lu making an unexpected appearance. Upon waking, Coop finds himself in a hospital bed, a battered and broken figure, having laid unconscious for a grueling 12 hours.
Detective Lin arrives to conduct her inquiry, ensuring privacy by ushering Coop's family out of the room. She wastes no time diving into the heart of the matter. Noticing that nothing was stolen from Coop, Lin concludes that he was deliberately targeted.
Lin senses Coop's downward spiral and extends a helping hand, hoping to extricate him from his predicament. Although she can piece together fragments of the puzzle, the evidence remains elusive. Unfortunately, Coop is too entrenched in his dark path to heed her warnings.
At the precinct, Lin discovers discrepancies in the report concerning Paul's death. The gun found in Samantha's house doesn't match the one used in the fatal shooting. Moreover, residue analysis reveals that Paul pulled the trigger, contrary to Samantha's claim that her weapon hadn't been fired. Lin hypothesizes that Paul might have been aiming at someone fleeing the scene, but Coop doesn't fit the profile. Nevertheless, she suspects he's withholding information and is determined to uncover the truth.
Further reports confirm traces of blood, and when combined with the ammonia Lin noticed at Samantha's house, they hint at a cover-up. Intriguingly, Lin discovers a nanny-cam concealed in a teddy bear in the children's room, capturing Coop tucking Henry into bed at Samantha's place—a scene we previously witnessed.
Prompted by these findings, Lin confronts Samantha, urging her to revise her initial statement at the station. As she exits, Samantha reaches for her phone, making a call, though it seems unlikely to be to Coop. Regardless, Coop is now firmly in the crosshairs.
In this episode, Elena finds herself entangled in a precarious situation. Her brother, mired in a dire financial quandary, owes a staggering sum of $175,000 to a individual named Felix, a debt incurred after an unfortunate incident where drugs were inadvertently dropped during a delivery. This colossal debt has now fallen upon Elena's shoulders, with a mere week to secure the repayment.
Bruce, meanwhile, fetches Ali from her workplace and escorts her home, confessing his long-held admiration for her and expressing delight at seeing her perform on stage once more. As their lips meet passionately in the driveway, Hernandez, who has been illegally searching for evidence behind a cluster of trash cans, finds himself at an awkward juncture. His fishing expedition uncovers crucial evidence: Coop's blood matches the traces found in the ammonia at the crime scene.
Elsewhere, Coop visits Barney at the hospital, who, though miraculously alive, is far from well. Barney, furious over recent events and sensing that something is being concealed from him, particularly regarding a mysterious brown envelope filled with cash, eventually ejects his friend from the room.
As Coop stands on the brink of a devastating revelation, Sam is left to host Paul's wake. Coop arrives, oblivious to the fact that Lin, armed with a search warrant, has already shown up at his residence. Inside the garage, they uncover Coop's car, and with time running out, Coop hastily contacts Kat, the region's foremost legal eagle, blackmailing her into representing him despite the obvious conflict of interest.
Taking a swift gulp of whiskey for courage, Coop is subsequently publicly arrested for Paul's murder by Lin and the other officers. To make matters worse, they also discover the murder weapon hidden in the trunk of his car.
