Jennifer Lopez is gearing up to mesmerize audiences once again with her electrifying dance moves at her next high-profile gig. The vocal powerhouse behind "On The Floor" has opened up about her meticulous preparations to return to the stage as the host of the prestigious 2025 American Music Awards, which will take place at the luxurious Fontainebleau in Las Vegas on May 26. In an exclusive interview with Francesca Amiker of E! News, Lopez revealed that she's been "rehearsing for several weeks" in anticipation of her first "major television performance in quite some time."
"Last year, I took a well-deserved break and jumped back into work with a film project," she elaborated. "This is my way of rekindling my performance spirit." Expressing her enthusiasm, she added, "We're going to celebrate all the musical gems of the year."
Although Lopez, who previously hosted the American Music Awards in 2015, refrained from spilling any more details about her upcoming performance, she did share insights into the creative process behind her live shows. Typically, the Wedding Planner actress brainstorms with her seasoned creative director, Tabitha Dumo. "I lay out what I aim to achieve," said Lopez, 55. "Then, she comes up with a plethora of ideas. We sift through them and collaboratively craft the vision I had in mind."
However, not every idea makes it to the final cut intact. Lopez admitted that her opening number for the ceremony has undergone significant transformations since they first started rehearsing. "It's a dynamic process," she noted. "Over the past few weeks, it's evolved from one concept to another."
Lopez's excitement isn't confined to her own return to the stage during this annual awards ceremony. The Shotgun Wedding actress is also thrilled to honor Janet Jackson with the Icon Award, recognizing her myriad accomplishments in the entertainment industry. "I've been a devoted fan of hers for years," Lopez enthused. "I was fortunate to work with her early in my career as a dancer. She's incredible and has left an indelible mark on me."
Furthermore, Lopez is equally eager to witness Gloria Estefan celebrating five decades of her groundbreaking contributions to music by performing at the event, marking her first appearance in over 30 years. "She was a trailblazer for Latin music, and now, Latin music is experiencing perhaps its most significant moment in history, crossing borders and dominating the global market," Lopez said. "So, it's the perfect juncture to celebrate a pioneer like her."
