James Gunn has finally completed the intricate puzzle of his "Man of Tomorrow" casting. After a series of exhilarating screen tests, Adria Arjona has been chosen to play the enigmatic role in DC Studios' upcoming sequel to "Superman." It was previously rumored that the character was the comic antiheroine Maxima, but whether that's accurate remains a mystery. DC Studios has chosen to remain silent on the matter.

Earlier this April, a group of four finalists underwent screen tests in Atlanta, including Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten. David Corenswet returns as Superman, with Nicholas Hoult taking on the role of Lex Luthor. Together, they will face off against Brainiac (Lars Eidinger) and an array of returning "Superman" stars such as Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), and Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific). The "Lanterns" star Aaron Pierre will also be back, reprising his role as the Green Lantern John Stewart.
If Arjona is indeed Maxima, it promises a more cosmic-themed adventure for this DC outing. Maxima was introduced by writer Roger Stern and artist George Pérez in "Action Comics" No. 645 in 1989. She is an alien queen who has both antagonized and potentially romanced Superman.
Gunn has set "Man of Tomorrow" for release on July 9, 2027. It serves as a sequel to last year's "Superman," which grossed $618.7 million worldwide. DC Studios has "Supergirl" lined up for June, followed by the horror-tinged "Clayface" on Oct. 23 this year and "The Batman: Part II" set for October 2027.
Last year, Arjona starred in the acclaimed second season of the "Star Wars" series "Andor" and featured alongside Dakota Johnson in the comedy "Splitsville." She has several high-profile movies in post-production, including Amazon MGM's remake of "The Thomas Crown Affair," directed by Michael B. Jordan, and "Onslaught," the latest thriller from Adam Wingard.
Arjona is represented by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Anonymous Content, and Goodman Genow.
