Venice Film Festival 2024 Lineup Revealed 1

Spanning from August 28 to September 7, this year's festival boasts an illustrious competition jury led by the renowned filmmaker Isabelle Huppert, alongside esteemed directors James Gray, Andrew Haigh, Agnieszka Holland, Kleber Mendonça Filho, Abderrahmane Sissako, Giuseppe Tornatore, and the Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi. Among the eagerly anticipated sections are the competition, out-of-competition titles in film and TV, documentaries, and the Orizzonti (Horizons) section. Venice has also given a sneak peek into its Immersive lineup for 2024.

As Venice continues its tradition of prioritizing world premieres, the announcement comes on the heels of Toronto's reveal of its galas and special presentations on Monday. With the TIFF announcement ruling out some potential Italian premieres, including Mike Leigh's "Hard Truths," Gia Coppola's "The Last Showgirl," Angelina Jolie's "Without Blood," and Edward Berger's Vatican City-set "Conclave" (which will also head to Telluride), the Venice lineup promises to be all the more enticing.

The coveted Golden Lion for Best Film and other accolades will be awarded during the closing ceremony of the 81st Venice International Film Festival, taking place on Saturday, September 7, at the illustrious Sala Grande of the Palazzo del Cinema on the Venice Lido. Sigourney Weaver will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement on the opening night, where Tim Burton's "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" will make its world premiere.

Last year, "Poor Things" took home the Golden Lion, going on to win four Oscars, including Best Actress for Emma Stone. Amidst ongoing strikes, the 2023 edition saw a notable absence of movie stars and writing talent. However, this year's Venice Film Festival promises to be a star-filled affair, with Hollywood talent from both in front of and behind the camera returning to the Lido, greeting fans from water taxis and introducing their films at screenings and press conferences. Stay tuned for the complete 2024 Venice International Film Festival lineup, which we'll be updating live as the announcements continue.
