"Did you believe our tale had reached its conclusion?" Universal Pictures has unveiled the eagerly awaited first official trailer for "Black Phone 2," the chilling sequel to C. Robert Cargill and Scott Derrickson's acclaimed film "The Black Phone," which premiered at Fantastic Fest before capturing audiences worldwide in 2022. The saga of the masked menace known as The Grabber is far from over.
Four years prior, a resilient 13-year-old named Finn managed to slay his captor and flee, emerging as the lone survivor of The Grabber's reign of terror. Yet, true malice transcends mortality... and now, the phone rings once more. Will courage answer its call?
Building on the phenomenal success of Blumhouse's 2022 horror smash, which garnered over $160 million globally and widespread acclaim, Universal proudly introduces a sinister new chapter with the release of "Black Phone 2." Does The Grabber have more sinister schemes in motion?
Returning for this thrilling sequel, once again helmed by director Scott Derrickson, are Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Miguel Mora. This seems like a monumental leap forward, aiming to turn the franchise into the next iconic horror series akin to "A Nightmare on Elm Street," brimming with all sorts of twisted phone booth-centric horrors.
Ethan Hawke reprises his most sinister role yet as The Grabber, seeking vengeance from beyond the grave against Finn (Mason Thames) by menacing his younger sister, Gwen (Madeleine McGraw). As Finn, now 17, grapples with life post-captivity, Gwen, a headstrong 15-year-old, starts receiving eerie calls in her dreams from the black phone, accompanied by haunting visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp named Alpine Lake. Determined to unravel the mystery and end the torment for both herself and her brother, Gwen convinces Finn to visit the camp amidst a winter storm. There, she uncovers a devastating connection between The Grabber and her family's past. Together, they must confront a killer who, in death, has become even more potent and personal than they could have ever imagined.
"Black Phone 2," formerly titled "The Black Phone 2," is directed once again by the esteemed American genre filmmaker Scott Derrickson, whose credits include "The Exorcism of Emily Rose," "The Day the Earth Stood Still," "Sinister," "Deliver Us from Evil," Marvel's "Doctor Strange," "The Black Phone," and "The Gorge," along with an episode of "Snowpiercer" and a short in "V/H/S/85." The screenplay is once more penned by C. Robert Cargill and Scott Derrickson. It is produced by Jason Blum, Scott Derrickson, and C. Robert Cargill, under the banner of Blumhouse Productions. Universal Pictures will unleash Derrickson's "Black Phone 2" in theaters nationwide this fall, on October 17th, 2025.
