During his +-=÷x Tour concert in Hamburg, Germany, Ed Sheeran delighted his fans with a delightful throwback moment that brought a smile to many faces. The Sapphire crooner surprised everyone by bringing on stage Brenda B. Brown, the singer from his childhood bandmate's group, Wheatus, to perform the timeless classic "Teenage Dirtbag."
"I have a fantastic surprise for you, something truly special, so stick with me," Sheeran, 34, announced to the eager crowd, as captured in a fan's video. He revealed that earlier this year, his childhood band had reunited to sing this 2000 hit at a friend's wedding, and he had considered bringing his long-time friends out on stage to recreate that magic during the concert.
After introducing his friends to the audience, Sheeran revealed an even more exciting twist – he had reached out to the frontman of Wheatus. "I decided to email the lead singer and ask if he'd come and sing it with us. And he flew all the way from New York just for this moment. It's going to be absolutely incredible, I can hardly wait," he exclaimed with excitement.
"This song is one of my all-time favorites, easily in my top 10," Sheeran added, emphasizing his love for "Teenage Dirtbag."
Reflecting on this nostalgic experience, Sheeran posted on Instagram, "When I was 12, I used to play 'Teenage Dirtbag' with my high school band. We reformed after 22 years to play at our friend's wedding in April, and we had so much fun that I asked them to join me on stage at a stadium."
He further shared how he reached out to Brown and expressed his heartfelt gratitude for accepting his invitation. The "Perfect" singer concluded his post with, "BEST DAY EVER!!!! [yellow heart]," encapsulating the joy and excitement of the unforgettable night.
Sheeran is currently embarking on a European tour this summer, gearing up for the release of his new album, Play, on September 12.
