Harry Styles cherishes every memory he shared with Liam Payne, his late One Direction bandmate who passed away in October 2024. In a candid interview with Zayn Lowe on Apple Music released on March 4th, Harry, now 32, spoke about his profound grief. "Losing a friend is so hard," he said. "It's difficult to lose any friend, but it's especially challenging when it's someone who shares so much in common with you. It's like losing someone with the kindest heart who just wanted to be great."

Since Liam's untimely passing at the age of 31, following a tragic fall from a balcony in Argentina, Harry has continuously sought ways to honor his friend's memory. "It was a pivotal moment for me, forcing me to reflect on my life and ask myself, 'What do I want to do with my life? How do I want to live it?'" he explained. "I believe the greatest way to honor your friends who have passed away is by living your life to the fullest."

Harry will always remember Liam as a "super special person." The singer, who was part of the band alongside Liam, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson for five years, also shared the challenges he faced while navigating his grief in the public eye. "To be completely transparent, even the idea of talking about it—I struggle with it a little bit," he said. "There was a period after he passed away when I really struggled with acknowledging how strange it is to have people sort of own part of your grief in a way."

Harry added, "I have such strong feelings about my friend passing away. Suddenly being aware of there being maybe a desire from other people for you to convey that in some way, or it means you're not feeling what you're feeling—it's something I've struggled with."

Harry's comments come shortly after Louis, who lost his mother and sister in 2016 and 2019 respectively, revealed how he still struggles with the loss of Liam despite having experienced grief before. "I naively thought that at this point," Louis told The Independent in an interview published on Oct. 18th, "I'd be a little more well-versed with grief than other people my age. I thought that might mean something, but it didn't at all." He added, "I don't think I'll ever really accept it."
