Katy Perry didn't shy away from the reality of her life when it came to unveiling her latest single, "Bandaids." Following the release of the 41-year-old's new track, which seemingly hints at the end of her engagement with ex-fiance Orlando Bloom, she revealed the internal turmoil that came with putting it out into the world. "I struggled for months with the idea of putting this song out," Katy admitted in an Instagram post on November 9th, "Even after all these years, it can be terrifying to be vulnerable...but hopefully the lyrics of this song will resonate with someone going through what I have been through and maybe they won't feel so alone and will find the strength to keep going like I have."

In her newest song, Katy, who shares a 5-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove, with Orlando, details the end of a relationship that she tried so hard to salvage. "Hand to God I promise I tried," Katy sings in the track, which was released on November 6th. "There's no stone left unturned / It's not what you did, it's what you didn't / You were there but you weren't."

In the accompanying music video, Katy loses a ring down a garbage disposal and severely injures her hand as she tries to retrieve it, continuing to injure herself in various other ways in subsequent clips. Despite the obvious pain alluded to by the "Teenage Dream" singer, she also expressed a lack of regret in pursuing the nine-year romance, especially when it came to the former couple welcoming their daughter. "If I had to do it all over again / I would still do it all over again," she sings in the song, with the accompanying video clip showing a daisy in the frame. "The love that we made was worth it in the end."

Indeed, both Katy and Orlando have emphasized their mutual respect for each other and their commitment to peacefully coparenting Daisy. "We're gonna be great," Orlando maintained during an appearance on Today on September 5th. "I'm so grateful. We've got a beautiful daughter." As he put it, "It's nothing but love."
