Osgood Perkins is poised to helm "The Young People" for Neon, with a stellar cast featuring Lola Tung and Nico Parker taking center stage. Details of the film's captivating plot remain tightly under wraps, as preparations gear up for a fall production spree in Vancouver. Neon has ambitious plans to unveil the movie theatrically across the U.S. and initiate its international marketing campaign at the prestigious Toronto Film Festival.
Tung, whose resume boasts an impressive credit in Season 3 of "The Summer I Turned Pretty," has just wrapped up her role in the upcoming horror thriller "Forbidden Fruits," directed by Meredith Alloway. Meanwhile, Parker has left an indelible mark with her performances in Universal's live-action remake of "How To Train Your Dragon," Maude Apatow's directorial debut "Poetic License," and the acclaimed HBO series "The Last Of Us."
"The Young People" marks the inception of a groundbreaking first-look deal between Neon and Perkins, who will don the director's hat for this film based on his own script. Neon, in collaboration with Lyrical Media, is co-financing the project, with Perkins producing alongside Chris Ferguson and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones.
As part of this pioneering partnership, Perkins has unveiled a new production banner named Phobos, run in tandem with Ferguson. Neon serves as the creative hub for Perkins' endeavors, where he and Ferguson will produce an array of projects. This alliance also paves the way for Perkins and Ferguson to collaborate on films by other filmmakers under the Neon banner, with Neon committing to a theatrical release in the U.S. and handling international rights.
Neon and Perkins' collaboration first bore fruit in 2024 with the indie hit "Longlegs," which raked in an impressive $75 million at the domestic box office. Their creative synergy was also evident in "Monkey." As they gear up for the November 14 release of "Keeper," Perkins and Neon continue to solidify their reputation as a dynamic duo in the film industry.
