Madelyn Cline and Lukas Gage are downplaying the romance rumors that have been swirling around them. The stars of "Outer Banks" and "The White Lotus" poked fun at the dating rumors after a celebrity gossip Instagram account described them as a "new couple" and posted a candid photo of the pair, in which Madelyn appeared to have unblended makeup on her face and Lukas with noticeably shinier skin.
"Oh my god," Madelyn wrote in the comments on February 2nd, adding, "I love you, but I think there are better pictures of me." Lukas agreed, explaining in a separate comment that he and the actress had undergone Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy, a non-invasive cosmetic treatment known for stimulating collagen, earlier that day. This was why Madelyn, 28, said she tried to cover up her temporary redness with concealer and powder. As she put it, "I literally don't even know how to bake."
While the longtime friends' relationship is strictly platonic, it hasn't always been that way. In fact, Madelyn—who has dated Chase Stokes and Pete Davidson—previously admitted to having the "biggest crush" on Lukas, 30, when they first met on the set of 2021's "What Breaks the Ice." But these days, Madelyn considers him more like her "Gemini sister."
"I really am, for life," replied Lukas, who was married to hairstylist Chris Appleton for seven months before their November 2023 breakup. "You're a very loyal friend, too. You've had my back." He continued, "You are a friend who does things for other people."
Elsewhere in their interview, the duo shared how "unhinged" they can become when they joke around together. "What did you do last summer?" Lukas asked Madelyn as a nod to her 2025 slasher film "I Know What You Did Last Summer," to which she quipped with a laugh, "Unfortunately, not you." Lukas jokingly added, "That lavender marriage is going down."
