Madelyn Cline has joined forces with Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz in "Day Drinker," an exhilarating action thriller helmed by Marc Webb under the Lionsgate banner. As she prepares to reprise her leading role in the highly anticipated fifth and final season of the Netflix series "Outer Banks," Cline is also slated to shine in Sony's chilling "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and Amazon MGM's enigmatic "The Map That Leads to You."
"Day Drinker" marks Depp's foray back into the mainstream after years of controversy stemming from his divorce from Amber Heard. The narrative unfolds on a cruise ship, where a bartender crosses paths with a mysterious day drinker. Soon, both find themselves ensnared in the dark underbelly of crime, connected in ways they never could have imagined. The film boasts an impressive producing team, including Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road—renowned for their work on the "John Wick" franchise for Lionsgate—alongside Adam Kolbrenner and Zach Dean.
Chelsea Kujawa oversees the project for Lionsgate, with Dan Freedman negotiating the studio deals. Dean, who has etched his name in the action genre with "Tomorrow War," "Fast X," and the forthcoming thriller "The Gorge," penned the original screenplay. Next week, audiences will witness Kolbrenner and Dean's collaboration come to life with "The Gorge," set to release on Apple TV+/Skydance.
"Day Drinker" underscores the recent fruitful partnership between Lionsgate and 30WEST, who previously teamed up for "Power Ballad," a music-themed comedy directed by John Carney and starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas. 30WEST will also serve as executive producers for "Day Drinker," a Thunder Road/In.2 production that signifies the fourth time Depp and Cruz have shared the screen, following their work in "Blow," "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," and "Murder on the Orient Express."
Cline is represented by the talent powerhouse CAA and Entertainment 360, as she continues to captivate audiences with her captivating performances.
