Madonna and Guy Ritchie Reunite for the First Time in Nearly 20 Years After Divorce

In recent times, Madonna has not dwelled on her 2008 divorce. In fact, the 67-year-old singer has reunited with her ex-husband Guy Ritchie for the celebration of their son Rocco Ritchie's art exhibit opening. At the December 12 event, Madonna and Guy posed alongside Rocco in front of his "Talk is Cheap" exhibition in London, and the 25-year-old shared his gratitude for his parents putting their post-breakup challenges aside for his big night.

"It's obvious why some people might hold judgement against me, I don't blame them," Rocco wrote on Instagram December 15. "However, I am proud to be who I am, but I’m even prouder to have both of my parents together in one room supporting me. The work should speak for itself, that’s why the show was called 'Talk Is Cheap.'"

For the event, Rocco wore a long leather coat atop a pair of gray slacks and a blue button-down shirt with a black tie, while Guy kept it simple with black pants, a black turtleneck, and a plaid jacket. Madonna, of course, showed up in full glam, styling in sheer red tights, a red top and gloves, a structured leather jacket, and knee-high boots.

This moment marked the first time the pair had been photographed together since their 2008 divorce following eight years of marriage. And though they didn't join their partners for the family photos, Madonna and Guy each had their plus-ones on-hand as Madonna was accompanied by boyfriend Akeem Morris to the event while Guy attended with his wife of 10 years, Jacqui Ainsley.

Despite the 17 years that have passed since their split, the "Vogue" singer recently opened up about how wounds were reopened in 2015 when they went through a custody battle after then-15-year-old Rocco refused to leave his father in London. "Probably one of the most painful moments in my life where I honestly couldn't see the forest through the trees was when I went through a custody battle with my son," Madonna explained in a September episode of On Purpose with Jay Shetty. "Someone trying to take my child away from me, it was like you might as well just kill me. That’s really how I was thinking."

While Rocco was supposed to return to New York with his mom, Madonna and Guy ultimately had to come to an agreement in 2016 to do what they felt was best for their son and allowed Rocco to continue living with his father in the UK. Now, nearly a decade later, mother and son are better than ever. As Madonna—also mom to Lourdes Leon, 29, with Carlos Leon, and adopted children David, 20, Mercy, 19, and twins Stella and Estere, 13—put it during the interview, "I’m now really good friends with my son."
