Just two months prior to his heartbreaking demise from an accidental drowning, the beloved actor, renowned for his role as Theodore Huxtable in the iconic NBC sitcom The Cosby Show, granted his last public interview. On the May 21st episode of the Hot & Bothered with Melyssa Ford podcast, Warner opened up about his aspirations for his legacy, stating, "I aspire to depart this earth, knowing that people recognize me as a good person." He reminisced about his father's words of pride, "'They may talk about your career and success, but what truly fills my heart with pride is your character.'"
Furthermore, Warner harbored ambitions for his Hollywood career to resonate long after he was gone. Having achieved the remarkable feat of starring in numerous hit series following The Cosby Show, such as Reed Between the Lines and The Resident, he reflected, "'Mr. Cosby bestowed upon me a form of immortality,' my mother once told me. Thus, one facet of my legacy is secure. But, given the full life I've lived beyond that show, I also get to leave another enduring mark."

Tragically, while vacationing in Costa Rica on July 20th, Warner was swept into deeper waters by a powerful current while swimming in the ocean. According to Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Agency, confirmed to E! News, beachgoers rescued him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Subsequently, Costa Rican National Police affirmed to ABC News that asphyxia was the official cause of Warner's passing, aged 54.

Tracee Ellis Ross, who costarred with him in Reed Between the Lines, posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram on July 21st, "What an extraordinary actor and friend you were: warm, gentle, present, kind, thoughtful, profound, humorous, and elegant.
