Mariah Carey Has 3-Word Response to Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez's Wedding

Mariah Carey is shaking off the rumors with a graceful nonchalance. The Grammy Award-winning singer didn't even bat an eyelash when quizzed about her absence from Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez's recent star-studded nuptials in Venice, an event that glittered with celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tom Brady. On July 5, as she stepped out for dinner in Los Angeles, a paparazzo popped the question. Mariah, adjusting her sunglasses with a breezy air, quipped back, "I wasn't there," leaving no room for further drama.

At 56, she expertly nipped any speculation of a feud in the bud. When the photographer inquired if she had even received an invitation from the couple, she responded with a wave of her hand, saying, "Oh, don't turn this into that," echoing the iconic "I don't know her" remark she made years ago when questioned about Jennifer Lopez. Although GIFs of her comment have been circulated online to cast aspersions, Mariah's intent was far from malicious.

"I was genuinely trying to say something nice or say nothing at all," she revealed to Pitchfork in 2018. "I really was." As for how her four-word answer has taken on a life of its own, Mariah shrugged it off, saying, "It is what it is. You have to embrace it."

Interestingly, J.Lo has also embraced the viral meme with good humor. "I think she's incredibly talented, and I've always been a fan of hers," Jennifer told Andy Cohen in 2014. "'My All' is one of my favorite songs of all time. I just love her. It saddens me to hear anything negative because I'm a fan of hers." When Wendy Williams joked about it during a 2016 interview, the "On the Floor" singer replied with a chuckle, "She's forgetful, I guess!" Adding, "We've met many times. I don't know her that well," with a wink and a smile.
