Naomi Osaka Turns Heads With Her Walk-On Look for 2026 Australian Open

Naomi Osaka is serving style in grand fashion at the 2026 Australian Open. The Grand Slam champion showcased a brand-new, custom look as she made her debut on the court at Melbourne Park on January 20th, setting the stage for a dazzling display of fashion and sportsmanship.

Naomi arrived on the court with a stunning entrance, ahead of her match against Croatia's Antonia Ruzic, in a tie-dye turquoise top that cascaded down into exaggerated pleated pants. Adding to the already striking outfit, the 28-year-old wore a wide-brimmed hat adorned with a cascading veil and a delicate butterfly, while carrying a parasol. The look was a nod to jellyfish and a nod to her daughter, Shai.

For her court appearance, Naomi enlisted the help of designer Robert Wun, who helped bring her vision to life after she shared that she was inspired by a character in a book she read to her daughter. In collaboration with her team at Nike, Naomi designed a racerback jacket and skirt with the same turquoise print and fringe along the sleeves and cross section of the uniform.

Naomi proved that her style accelerated her game as she defeated Antonia in two sets. After winning the Australian Open in 2021, Naomi's fashion choice for this year's tournament marked the start of a new era.

"The birth of something new," Naomi told Vogue in an interview published on January 20th. "It felt symbolic of energy, transformation, and excitement."

"When I look back at the players who came before me, I think about how those moments—those looks—have become memories that live forever," she continued. "So much of the time, other people get to write our stories for us. This felt like a moment where I could write a little bit of my own."

The ensemble was not only a callback to her daughter, who she told Vogue "got so excited" when she saw the look, but also to the viral moment during the 2021 competition when a butterfly landed on her nose mid-game. "After we sent over our moodboards, Robert came back with a reference that really touched me," she explained about the designer's small detail on the hat. "The butterfly moment from Australian Open 2021."

Naomi has never been shy when it comes to acing her on-court style. In August, the Japanese athlete wore a series of bedazzled Labubus during the US Open. Ahead of her latest appearance, Naomi admitted that she didn't have any jitters when it came to kicking off her 2026 Australian Open run, as she knew she would be the topic of discussion either way.

"When I was playing today, I just told myself, like, 'Keep your head on the path. If she beats you, then that's unfortunate," she said in a post-game interview via Associated Press on January 20th. "But, hey, at least you're trending on social media.'"
