WRC anchor Leon Harris has sparked headlines following his unexpected departure from the Thanksgiving night broadcast of the Washington, D.C.-based NBC-owned station. A clip uploaded to X vividly captured Harris struggling to enunciate his scripts and delivering a disjointed commentary during the initial seven minutes of the newscast.

A swift perusal of tveyes revealed that, around 6:07 p.m., the station abruptly shifted to an elongated commercial break, subsequently concluding the broadcast with a prolonged weather forecast by meteorologist Ryan Miller, accompanied by what seemed to be a prerecorded business segment.

After his elongated forecast presentation, Miller addressed the viewers, stating, "We've received numerous calls and emails from some of you during this newscast. We'd like to reassure you that our esteemed colleague Leon Harris is doing well. The news team appreciates your concern and we'll see you again at 7:30."

Harris joined WRC in 2017, bringing over two decades of experience as an anchor at CNN. Some social media users speculated that Harris might have been under the influence of alcohol, referencing his past where he served jail time in 2022 for driving under the influence, causing a collision, and attempting to flee the accident scene.

NBC declined to comment, stating, "We have nothing to share at this time regarding the matter."
