The celebrated alumnus of 'The Daily Show' is poised to grace the stage once again with his comedic prowess, as Hulu, a Disney-owned streaming giant, continues to embrace the art of stand-up specials. Roy Wood Jr.'s highly anticipated stand-up comedy special is come Hulu,marking his fourth such performance. Set to tape at the storied Lincoln Theatre in the heart of Washington, D.C., in September, this special will then debut globally on Hulu and Disney+. His previous special, 'Imperfect Messenger,' garnered widespread praise on Paramount+.

As Hulu dives deeper into the monthly stand-up specials under the banner "Hulu's Laughing Now," Roy Wood Jr.'s latest offering adds to the already impressive lineup. Alongside these specials, Hulu is also cultivating a vast library of both classic and contemporary stand-up performances, courtesy of renowned production houses 800 Pound Gorilla and Comedy Dynamics.

Leading the charge is the comedic genius of Jim Gaffigan, whose special will premiere on November 22. Bill Burr, another comedy legend, is also slated to bring his next special to Hulu, following his previous hits on Netflix. Mainstay Entertainment and Jax Media will helm the production of Wood's special, while Craig Patterson directs.

For eight illustrious years, Wood served as a correspondent on 'The Daily Show,' and in 2023, he even had the honor of guest-hosting the Comedy Central staple. In 2017, he took the stage at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, delivering a headline-grabbing performance. Now, the comedic star is set to join the ranks of Keanu Reeves and Jonah Hill in the upcoming comedy film, 'Outcome.'

Wood's illustrious resume also boasts credits in the Paramount Pictures' remake of 'Fletch,' 'Confess,' and guest appearances in the hit shows 'Only Murders in the Building,' 'Better Call Saul,' and 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.' The exact date and title of Wood's upcoming special will be revealed soon.

Hulu, though a relatively recent entrant in the stand-up comedy arena among major streaming services, is quickly making its mark. Netflix has long been a hub for high-profile specials from comedians like Burr, Chris Rock, Hannah Gadsby, John Mulaney, and Joe Rogan. Amazon's Prime Video also boasts a robust collection of stand-up performances, while Max offers both original specials and a vast library of HBO sets. However, with Roy Wood Jr.'s latest special and other upcoming offerings, Hulu is certainly making its presence felt in the world of stand-up comedy.
