Steven Spielberg is ramping up preparations to helm a captivating new film, featuring an esteemed ensemble cast led by Josh O'Connor and Emily Blunt. Announced by Universal Pictures on Tuesday, this highly anticipated "event film," as of yet unnamed, is penciled in for a grand theatrical debut on June 12, 2026.
Details surrounding this latest endeavor, conceived from a tale by Spielberg himself, remain under wraps. Penning the screenplay is seasoned screenwriter David Koepp, whose credits include the screenplays for "Jurassic Park" and its sequel, "War of the Worlds," as well as "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." Joining the star-studded cast are Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, and Eve Hewson, promising a cinematic experience brimming with talent.
The summer of 2026 is shaping up to be a veritable smorgasbord of blockbuster offerings. Among the marquee releases are "Avengers: Doomsday" hitting theaters in May, followed by "The Mandalorian and Grogu" on May 22. June will witness the return of "Toy Story" with its fifth installment on the 19th, while July will usher in "The Odyssey" on the 17th and conclude with the much-anticipated "Spider-Man 4" on the 24th.
Prior to this announcement, Universal had slated June 12 for the next film from Academy Award-winning filmmakers Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert of "Everything Everywhere All At Once" fame. However, the studio revealed that a new release date for their equally untitled project will be forthcoming soon.
Meanwhile, Spielberg's most recent film, "The Fabelmans," released in 2022, garnered seven Oscar nominations, solidifying his reputation for delivering cinematic masterpieces.
