In an intimate interview with BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs on December 21st, Winslet paints a vivid picture of post-"Titanic" fame as a "horrific" experience. She recounts feeling besieged by intrusive media attention, with people tapping her phone, sifting through trash bins in a bid to uncover her dietary habits, and even querying local shopkeepers about her shopping preferences. "I was terrified to go to sleep," she confesses, describing her pre-Titanic world as "totally turned upside down" by the film's release.

The 50-year-old actress, who previously grappled with body image issues as a young girl, found herself in an unfamiliar terrain. Magazine covers, adorned with her and DiCaprio's faces, were accompanied by "awful, terrible, actually abusive names," she shares.

Moreover, Winslet reveals the added pressure of intense media scrutiny during her 2010 divorce from second husband Sam Mendes. She recalls being followed by paparazzi in New York City with her two young children, who "wanted to know the reason why Sam and I had split up."

When asked about her coping mechanism, Winslet offers a poignant response: "a good meal, a shared conversation, a nice cup of coffee, a bit of Radiohead and a good poo." She adds, "Life's all the better for those things." Her words carry a profound sense of gratitude for the simple pleasures that provide solace in the storm.
