Kristin Cavallari's trip down memory lane turned out to be a disappointment far from her expectations. During the June 11th episode of E!'s "Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour," the former "Laguna Beach" star reunited with her first love, only for the encounter to take an unexpected and rocky turn.
"I'm about to bring up Johnny, my very first boyfriend from Chicago," Kristin revealed in a confessional segment ahead of one of her live "Let's Be Honest" podcast shows in Illinois. "I've mentioned him a couple of times on the podcast. We were as deeply in love as two 13- and 14-year-olds could be."
The 38-year-old noted that Johnny was "nervous" about being in the public eye, given that he's not accustomed to it and they hadn't seen each other for 15 years. "For people who don't do this kind of thing, it's absolutely nerve-wracking," Kristin added. "So, I really appreciate him coming out."
Moreover, the reality star saw it as an opportunity to reconnect with the man she had lost her virginity to. "Johnny was planning to attend the Chicago show anyway," she elaborated in her confessional. "I thought, 'Wait a minute, this could be really fun.' We all know how hard it is to get over your first love. I wondered if I had perhaps romanticized our past in my mind over the years. Getting his perspective would be incredible."
However, when Johnny finally joined her on stage, the reunion was far more contentious than Kristin had anticipated. After she told the audience about their relationship, reminiscing, "I would wake up in the morning to find poems on my window," Johnny interrupted with a differing account. "You'd wake up next to me. That's the podcast version," he retorted. "To clarify, you'd greet me in outfits just like this. Seeing you in this one was tough."
Kristin was taken aback by his awkward comment, but the worst was yet to come. Johnny then accused her of having wandering eyes. "Before you left, you were hooking up with people in Barrington [Ill.]," he claimed. "You broke my heart by hooking up with my best friend, Tommy."
A shocked Kristin denied the allegation. "I don't even remember Tommy," she countered. "I hooked up with Tommy?!" Needless to say, Kristin was not pleased with Johnny's attempt to portray her as the villain in their past relationship.
"Johnny is such a letdown," the mother of three lamented in a confessional. "It truly breaks my heart because for years, I've held our relationship in high regard. But when he got on stage, he was a completely different person."
"He was the only person I gave the questions to beforehand because he obviously doesn't do this kind of thing," she continued. "He knew exactly what I was going to say, so it felt premeditated, like he wanted to come out and tear me down. The memories I've cherished of Johnny for all these years are now completely ruined."
The next day, Kristin was still furious over the uncomfortable exchange. "You want to trash me in front of my audience?" she ranted to her best friend, Justin Anderson. "It's fucked up! I hate Johnny."
A calmer Kristin then shared the surprising text she received from Johnny after the show. "'You were amazing last night,'" she read to Justin. "'Thanks for such a fun escape from reality. You're going to absolutely crush the rest of your tour. No doubt about it.'"
After her former "Laguna Beach" costar and ex-boyfriend Talan Torriero pulled a similar stunt during another live show, Kristin was done with the men from her past. "I don't even care about looking foolish in front of the audience anymore," she admitted to Justin. "This is a much bigger issue for me. It's a recurring theme in my life. With Talan, it was expected. But with Johnny, it was like, 'Oh my god!' No man has ever taken accountability in my life, ever."
Now, Kristin no longer tolerates such behavior from men. "I've let these men into my life, and I can see it coming a mile away now," she reflected. "It's a stark reminder of how far I've come."
