WWE star Chelsea Green leaves social media after backlash for Hulk Hogan comments

Published: Jul 28 2025

WWE superstar Chelsea Green announced her temporary departure from social media on Friday evening, following a wave of criticism directed at her comments concerning the late Hulk Hogan. Within the realm of professional wrestling, Green, like countless others, extended her condolences upon learning of Hogan's passing. During an appearance on CBS News' 24/7 show on Thursday, she hailed him as an "undisputed icon," acknowledging his "polarizing political views" nonetheless.

Hogan, who voiced his support for President Donald Trump during the 2024 presidential election, had already garnered a reputation as a controversial figure due to a leaked audio clip capturing him making racist remarks. This incident alienated some segments of the wrestling fanbase.

Green's remarks about Hogan stirred a furor among fans on social media, prompting her to address the issue in an initial post. "A substantial aspect of my role within WWE entails engaging with the public and responding to inquiries, frequently on live platforms," Green penned on X. "Yesterday, I was prompted to comment on Hulk Hogan live on TV. Let me assert unequivocally: my stance against racism is unshakable. I categorically condemn it."

"If my response seemed to trivialize genuine concerns, I offer my heartfelt apologies. That was never my intention. I sought to pay respects to the deceased respectfully, even when the legacy is fraught with complexities. I am a lifelong learner, and this journey continues."

However, the backlash persisted, ultimately compelling Green to take a complete step back from social media. "I've endeavored to maintain a positive and humorous tone on my page, but today, much has changed… and the impact was far greater than anticipated. The name-calling, the death threats, the anonymous accounts," she lamented.

"Social media was meant to be a realm of joy, but it hasn't been for some time. It has become overwhelming, and I need to take a breather for a while."

Hogan passed away on Thursday, possibly due to a cardiac event at his Florida residence. He was eulogized across the sports entertainment landscape. WWE paid homage to him on "Friday Night SmackDown" with a commemorative video showcasing his wrestling triumphs and a solemn 10-bell salute.
