Set 16 years ago, the seventh episode of '56 Days' opens with a tale of two friends, Shane and Oliver, navigating troubled lives. Oliver's family has always been absent, while Shane struggles with financial hardships and dysfunctional parents. Shane invites Paul, a person Oliver doesn't approve of, to join them. Paul's rude and confrontational behavior escalates, culminating in an altercation where he insults Shane's mother and physically attacks Shane, who is then drowned in the river. Oliver tries to intervene but ends up in the water with Paul. Paul dies, and Oliver drives Shane home.

Oliver wants to report it as self-defense, but Shane persuades him to keep it quiet. Afterward, Shane returns home to find Megan (Ciara) waiting for him and notices Oliver dropping him off. She has questions, but Shane insists he was with her the entire time. However, Oliver's guilt over his involvement weighs heavily on him. He finally reaches out to his father, who shifts the blame onto Shane. Enraged, Shane attempts to stab Oliver, and out of guilt, Oliver slashes himself where Shane almost injured him.
Megan wants to testify for her brother but is dismissed by her mother, Kristi, who thinks Megan is seeking attention. With Caspar's financial backing, the trial ends with Shane being found guilty of murdering Paul. A devastated Oliver is in a fragile mental state that Dan, the school counselor, notices. He promises to keep the truth a secret and in exchange, Caspar pays him $25k monthly to take Oliver as his patient. Dan exploits Oliver's fears and has the boy rely on him constantly.
Despite therapy, Oliver doesn't improve. He decides to come clean and writes a letter to Shane but is too afraid to send it. Dan offers to deliver the letter but never actually does. To ensure he doesn't lose his deal with Caspar, Dan manipulates Shane by talking about how the guilty verdict must be affecting the Martins. There's a law stating that if a convicted man dies before the appeal, his charges are dropped.
As anticipated, Shane met his end by taking his own life, leaving the Martins in utter grief and Kristi on the brink of a mental breakdown. A teenage Shyla confronted Dan, accusing him of being the catalyst in Shane's demise. She resisted his usual manipulative tactics and instead punched him right in the face. He secured a restraining order against her, but she was unfazed.
At home, Megan confided in Shyla the truth and felt a sense of guilt for not speaking out sooner. Shyla comforted her, explaining that with Oliver's wealth, the truth wouldn't have made a difference.
On Day 33, Oliver awoke and pieced together the situation. Ciara confessed that she had initially wanted to hurt him but had changed her mind upon seeing how he was making amends for his mistakes. A flashback revealed her throwing away Shyla's gun. He apologized for not being honest and for his brother's unjust fate. She was relieved that he now understood and they confessed their love for each other.
Meanwhile, the police decided to investigate Ciara's whereabouts. Suddenly, someone shattered their car window and sped away.
