The episode kicks off with Amanda (Lucy Punch), thoughtfully composing a post on crafting a more minimalist living space. As a sudden realization dawns upon her that something crucial is lacking, she finds herself at Mal's (Samuel Anderson) abode, inquiring about the whereabouts of a branch. Mal, with a whimsical grin, responds, "Probably in a tree, dear."
At the football practice field, JJ (Ekow Quartey) curiosly approaches Della Fry (Siobhan McSweeney), asking if she'll be providing the culinary delights for the upcoming car boot barbecue. Della, with a hint of exhaustion, reveals that Fi (Rochenda Sandall) has volunteered her, as after a grueling week of frying meat in a restaurant, frying more meat in a car park seems like a refreshing change. Anne Flynn (Phillippa Dunne) chimes in, half-jokingly warning her not to induce any food poisoning, like at her last gathering. Just then, Amanda arrives, introducing her mother, Felicity Sanderson (Joanna Lumley), to the gathering with a flourish.
Upon noticing Morten (Anya McKenna-Bruce), Amanda attempts to coax her into joining her endeavors. However, her pitch falls flat, with only Anne showing any interest. Amanda boasts about her burgeoning social media success and a potential feature in a prestigious real estate magazine on minimal living. Anne then inquiries if Amanda has any items she'd be willing to donate for the car boot sale. Amanda mentions a possible candle, but Felicity, eager to contribute, brings up the plethora of items stored in her garage post-divorce.
Before long, they're hustling to load the garage contents into Mal's van. When Mal asks Felicity if she'll join them at the sale, she shares that she's attending a dear friend's funeral instead. Meanwhile, Anne is frantically searching for Darius's (Jack Veal) Finsta account. Once Amanda's belongings are secured, Anne confides in Mal that Amanda's social media endeavors are yet to yield financial rewards. She also stumbles upon Darius's profile, discovering his new relationship status.
At the car boot sale, Anne inquiries about Darius's love interest with Ned (Archie Smith), who remains clueless. Later, Fi presents Amanda with a charming wicker basket, handmade with care. Shortly after, a customer approaches Amanda's stall, in search of a Hoover vacuum. Elsewhere, Ned shares with Mal and Anne that JJ is constructing a mini gym for him, albeit with reservations about his carpentry skills. Anne cautions him, recalling how her cousin Gerard sustained injuries while working on her loft.
Just as Amanda returns to retrieve her mini horse from Mal's van, she enlists Anne's help. Anne, however, is preoccupied with keeping tabs on Darius. The scene vividly captures the eclectic blend of ambitions, friendships, and everyday chaos that defines their community.
Amanda arrives back at her booth, only to find that she has once again missed out on a potential sale. Hardly has she settled when Felicity strolls in, her spirits dampened by the recent funeral. Anne, meanwhile, finds herself contemplating whether Darius might be in a romantic entanglement with Morten. Later in the day, Manus (played by Alexander Shaw) presents Mal with a snow globe he has procured from JJ's stall. Upon inspecting it, Mal recognizes it as his own possession. Driven by curiosity, Mal visits JJ's booth and is astounded to discover that most of the items on display belong to him.
Felicity drowns her sorrows in alcohol, haunted by the memories of the funeral. She urges Amanda to immerse herself in the art of wicker crafting, revealing that her newfound passion for fruit bowls has momentarily distracted her from thoughts of mortality. Amanda, in her relentless pursuit of social media fame, loses out on selling a mini horse, only to see it slip away moments after she leaves her booth. Felicity, ignoring Amanda's asking price, sells the horse for a pittance.
Amanda is incensed by the loss of her mini horse, while Anne grapples with the possibility of Darius and Morten's relationship. Amanda creates a scene in an attempt to reclaim her horse, but Anne's attempt to comfort her by suggesting that the old horse belongs to her past self falls flat. Amidst the chaos, Anne catches Darius kissing Georige (played by Miley Locke), a sight that brings her relief but leaves Amanda less than thrilled.
JJ returns Mal's belongings and apologizes for his misdeed, acknowledging that he had stolen Mal's wife even before they were officially separated. Mal, however, reminds him that their separation predated their meeting by two years. In a gesture of finality, Mal discards the returned items as Felicity continues her melancholic binge drinking.
The episode concludes with Amanda participating in a minimalist photo shoot. When the photographer requests a glass of water, Amanda struggles to retrieve it amidst the clutter of junk she has accumulated from the car boot sale.
