The episode kicks off with Amanda (portrayed by Lucy Punch) facing a dire situation as her car is repossessed. Desperate for advice, she turns to Mal (played by Samuel Anderson), who candidly suggests she secure a real job. Amanda retorts by emphasizing her thriving social media career, but Mal persists, urging her to find a gig that actually pays in cold, hard cash.
At the football practice session, Anne Flynn (Philippa Dunne) queries the group's readiness for the impending Parents' Evening. Before anyone can respond, Amanda and Felicity Sanderson (Joanna Lumley) make their entrance, causing a stir. Felicity informs Della Fry (Siobhan McSweeney) of her attendance at the rehearsal lunch for the restaurant launch, while Della apologetically mentions she didn't invite Amanda, presuming she'd be tied up. Amanda swiftly asserts that she indeed is quite busy.
During a job interview, Daniel Kichen (Cavan Clerkin) acknowledges Amanda's impressive résumé but points out her lack of retail experience. Undeterred, Amanda confidently asserts her 15 years of self-employment and, through her persuasive eloquence, lands the job.
Later, Amanda storms into Haycroft Academy to share her exciting news about collaborating with Kichen Bathrooms and Kitchens with the group. However, her enthusiasm is abruptly halted by the buzzing timer. Anne explains the format: each parent gets a precious three minutes with each teacher. Mrs. Judd (Amy Trigg) informs Anne that Darius Flynn (Jack Veal) will receive extra support during half-term to avoid repeating a module. She also advises Mal and JJ (Ekow Quartey) that Ned (Archie Smith) is encountering difficulties and could benefit from homework assistance during the break.
Mr. Francis (Tom Babbage) tells Fi (Rochenda Sandall) that Morten (Anya McKenna-Bruce) is a bright student achieving good grades but should make more of an effort to attend school consistently. Meanwhile, Mrs. Leary (Eva Fontaine) pulls Amanda aside to discuss Georgie Hughes (Miley Locke), noting her easy distraction, which is beginning to impair her homework performance. The following morning, Georgie made a dash for the door, eager to slip out before Amanda embarked on her new professional journey. However, Amanda promptly halted her escape, insisting she return indoors to focus on her studies. Meanwhile, Mal, realizing his limitations in tutoring Ned in mathematics, turned his attention to Anne, who was already engrossed in teaching Darius the same subject.
Amanda, running late for her maiden day at work, was astonished when Daniel tasked her with distributing promotional flyers. Anne's teaching debut proved to be a disaster, leaving her frustrated and upset with Darius and Ned, who struggled to grasp the concepts. While handing out flyers, Amanda caught sight of Georgie assisting Morten in procuring mangoes for Della's restaurant grand opening. Amanda, claiming to be in town for a collaborative project, ultimately reached out to Felicity to supervise Georgie.
Back at the store, Daniel reprimanded Amanda for loafing around outside, until she mentioned her conversation with Della Fry's daughter, which impressed him. He promptly inquired about the possibility of Della endorsing one of his products, to which Amanda assented to broach the subject. Mal collected Ned from Anne's residence as Felicity arrived to keep an eye on Georgie. Upon returning home later, Amanda found Felicity and Georgie adorned with makeup, prompting her to announce her intention to visit Anne's place the following day.
The subsequent day unfolded even more disastrously for Anne, who resorted to giving the children the homework answers directly. Amanda, at work, received an invite from Fi to attend the launch, due to a tube strike. Despite Daniel's insistence that she couldn't attend because he would be in St. Albans, Amanda called Fi upon his departure and confirmed her attendance.
Upon returning to find the store shuttered, Daniel called Amanda, on the brink of dismissing her. However, her revelation about her potential to secure Della's endorsement swayed him. Amanda subsequently attempted to discuss the endorsement with Della, but to no avail, as she was preoccupied with the launch festivities. During the event, Della dedicated the meal to her and Fi's anniversary, while JJ credited Mal for aiding Ned with his math homework.
After her unsuccessful attempt to persuade Della to endorse Daniel's product, Amanda retreats to the bathroom to gather her composure. There, she unexpectedly bumps into a frantic Fi, who has completely forgotten about her and Della's anniversary. The next day, in a bid to rectify the situation, Fi gifts Della the Sinkliminator and snapshots her holding it, later forwarding the picture to Amanda just as she steps into her workplace.
Meanwhile, Anne is thrown into a tizzy upon receiving a message about a meeting concerning her kids' cheating scandal. Amanda, engrossed in her work, receives the meeting notification and promptly calls Felicity, inquiring about the possibility of joining them. Soon after, Della storms into the store to return the Sinkliminator. Amanda, attempting to evade her, is spotted nonetheless, and despite wearing a uniform, she denies working there. Della's mood darkens further upon catching sight of a picture of herself sprawled across the sales floor.
At the meeting with Mrs. Judd, Mal initially tries to shoulder the blame for the cheating, but Anne bravely owns up to it. Post-meeting, Mal apologizes to JJ for his deceit, confessing that he feels like the weekend dad. JJ, playfully correcting him, asserts that he is the stepdad—the least cool of all dads. Mal agrees to cede control over math homework to JJ. Upon returning home after being fired, Felicity's frustration intensifies when Amanda lightly brushes off the cheating incident. As Amanda elucidates her reasons for wanting Georgie to excel in school, she realizes Felicity has vanished. Shortly thereafter, they discover her in her room, diligently working on her homework.
Amanda manages to reclaim her job at the retail store by convincing them she sold Felicity an entire kitchen remodel. Similarly, JJ faces an uphill battle teaching Ned math.
