Anthracite – Season 1 Episode 6

Published: May 30 2024

Episode 6 of Anthracite opens with a thrilling scene, as Hari's masked twin sister, Cali, launches a surprise attack on Jaro. Back in 1990, a weary and haggard Caleb treks through the wilderness, pausing at one of the ominous cave entrances. Echoes haunt him until they abruptly cease, and he collapses onto a pile of anthracite. Wiping his hand across his face, he appears at peace, as if a weight has been lifted from his shoulders.

In the present, the tense atmosphere in the cave intensifies as Faure arrives, ordering Cali to eliminate Malia. She and Jaro are a stain on Caleb's lineage, Faure declares. Caleb suddenly emerges to distract her, while Ida sneaks in to free Jaro. Caleb persists in his efforts to accept Cali, but Faure senses Ida's presence and warns that it's a trap. Enraged, Cali stabs Caleb, and Faure orders her to finish Malia.

Erwan, torn between loyalty and love, hesitates to leave Gio, who confesses to kissing Jaro but swears nothing else happened. They almost reconcile as Gio acknowledges her distance after her miscarriage. But their moment is interrupted when Hari rushes Romeo to the hospital and warns them of Cali's impending danger.

Worried and determined, Erwan and Gio decide to brave the mines of Arcacia. However, Titouan reveals a chilling truth to Carmela: the miners have kidnapped Malia for experiments, sparking a riot among the locals. Gio rushes the truck through the gate, providing a gateway for the rioters to flood in. Erwan stays behind to cover her as she sneaks into the mine entrance.

Inside, Gio finds Bachelard, distraught and ready to detonate the mines. The investors have pulled their funding, leaving him with no other option. Gio pleads with him to stop, reminding him that a child is trapped inside. But Vincent, Elias' father, arrives, still convinced that Arcacia is responsible for his son's illness. He shoots Bachelard, and the detonator falls, out of Gio's reach.

Beneath the earth's surface, before Cali could unleash her fury, the bombs detonated, causing a devastating cave-in that claimed the lives of both her and Faure. Jaro, struck by a falling debris, lay unconscious, his head throbbing. His mother's voice penetrated the haze, urging him to awaken. With a groan, he forced his eyes open and stumbled towards Malia. Together, they fled with Ida, only to be engulfed by a storm of anthracite dust as the remaining mines crumbled before their escape.

Meanwhile, Gio managed to extricate Vincent from the chaos and reunited with Erwan. Relief washed over him as he embraced her in a passionate kiss. Amidst the chaos, the cave rescuers arrived in the nick of time, finding Jaro, Malia, and Ida amidst the rubble.

Three weeks later, Romeo's fateful encounter with Hari in prison revealed the sincerity of his feelings. However, Romeo chose to depart from the town, grateful to Jaro for his tender care and for watching over Malia while Anais recuperated.

In a secluded storage room, Jaro stumbled upon Ida, who confessed her desire to live. He revealed their compatibility, promising that she would undergo the surgery soon. Overjoyed, they swore never to mention their fateful night together again.

Outside, Solal awaited Ida with tearful eyes, and together, they embarked on their journey home, unaware that her followers were desperately trying to reach her. At a gas station, they finally made contact. As they delved deeper into Ida's compatibility with Caleb, a shocking revelation emerged - she was not related to him, meaning another man was her biological father.

Jaro's chance encounter with Uncle Claude at Marie's grave led to a reconciliation. As they made their way home, Jaro paused at Juliette's room, where he stumbled upon the tape Marie had been listening to. Inside, Juliette was recording a song when Roxane burst in, aware of the mysterious presence of Enola who "haunted" Juliette in her sleep. It was Claude, but Juliette denied it vehemently.

Jaro, stunned, gazed into the mirror, realizing he was wearing an old shirt belonging to Claude, emblazoned with the word "alone". It was an anagram of "Enola", the same shirt Claude wore when he raped Juliette. The truth dawned on him - Claude was Ida's father.

As Jaro pivoted, he caught sight of Claude, who had been silently observing the entire situation. Claude was now making his way to the farm, intent on retrieving his rifle. Fueled by anger, Jaro pursued him, determined to get to the bottom of what had transpired.

Claude, his voice hoarse, insisted that it had all been a misstep, and he had wanted to move past it. But Roxane wouldn't let him, so he had taken her life and framed the cult for it. When Solal started snooping around, Claude had abducted him too, desperate to keep his secret buried. Marie had also paid the ultimate price for Claude's desperation to erase any trace of his mistake. And now, if it meant escaping the constant reminder of his error, he was prepared to eliminate Jaro as well.

Jaro's heart heavy, he inquired about Juliette's demise. Claude nodded, admitting that she had once cared deeply for Jaro. But once she started therapy, she began to recall who Enola truly was. Claude, fearing the truth would come to light, had silenced her forever.

Fueled by anger, Jaro lunges forward, brandishing the rifle as he rains blows upon his adversary. But then, the memories of Malia, Ida, and Romeo flood his mind, causing him to hesitate and ultimately halt his violent assault. As he collapses to the ground, Ida arrives, her expression a mixture of sorrow and compassion as she gazes down at him.

In the mid-credit scene, a revealing glimpse is offered into the transformation of Solal's unfinished TV report from three decades past. A film crew has breathed new life into this archival footage, transforming it into a captivating documentary. However, during the interview with Ida, she abruptly flees when her followers stumble upon mysterious footage depicting a woman's horrified reaction to the contents of a mysterious package. The suspense mounts as the scene cuts away, leaving the viewer eager to discover the significance of this unexpected discovery.
