Dove returned to the hotel and caught sight of Sean engaged in conversation with his mother. Surprisingly, rather than panicking about his missing car, he dismissed any inquiries with a wave of his hand and refused to discuss it. Dove promptly recounted her ordeal to Gilbert, convinced that forces were at play to thwart their efforts to unearth the truth. Despite the perilous situation she had faced, she now felt a thrill of excitement, knowing that she had a compelling story to tell.

Bodkin – Season 1 Episode 2 1

From the confiscated file, Emmy's illicit discovery revealed that the anonymous boy, once presumed missing, had actually survived the mysterious disappearances. His name was Edward, and he emerged days later, rescued by a kindly nun named Sister McDonagh. Desperate to unravel the enigma surrounding Edward's fate, Gilbert, Emmy, and Dove embarked on a quest to locate the nun.

Their journey led them to a serene church nestled on an island, where they encountered the Mother Reverend, Bernadette. She informed them that Sister McDonagh was not receiving visitors, offering instead a tour of the sacred sanctuary. Yet Dove, driven by a relentless quest for answers, was determined to pursue her investigation.

It was then that an eerie twist unfolded. Bernadette inquired about Dove's identity, wondering if she was indeed Dubheasa Maloney, a notorious figure from Bernadette's past who had caused a firestorm in Dublin years ago. Dove's alarmed expression remained unspoken, but her silence spoke volumes. Could her aversion to returning to Ireland be rooted in a dark past she longed to forget?

Dove stealthily slipped away, determined to track down Sister McDonagh. Gilbert and Emmy followed suit, and they eventually found the nun in a fragile state, bedridden and reliant on a respirator. Despite her frail appearance, Sister McDonagh retained a glimmer of consciousness and the ability to speak. Gilbert gently interrogated her, and she recounted the story of how she had discovered the little boy days after the festive celebrations. She knew nothing of his identity, but his tales of fishing, boats, and rowing left a lasting impression. She had brought him to the town, and now, years later, she claimed to see him constantly, a phantom of her memories.

Sister McDonagh verifies that Edward, better known as Teddy, is indeed the singer who performs at the local pub. However, before they can delve deeper into his story, Bernadette unexpectedly arrives and forcibly ejects the group from the premises. She sternly warns them that she will take legal action if they use any of the audio they have recorded, which prompts Gilbert to become enraged at Dove for failing to adhere to the rules. Dove, however, is less concerned with the podcast and more focused on solving the mystery. Gilbert insists that their purpose in Bodkin is to forge connections, but Dove disagrees.

In an attempt to extract information from Teddy, they discover that his surname is Power, hinting at a possible connection to Sergeant Power. They attempt to conduct an interview with him, but Teddy is reluctant to speak with Gilbert. Nevertheless, he is willing to talk to Dove, who inquiries about Fiona. Teddy reveals that Fiona was his teacher and often took him home after school to cook dinner for him, ensuring he was never alone. Just as he is poised to share more, Sergeant Power interrupts and orders them to leave. Gilbert, once again, expresses his frustration, emphasizing that the podcast's objective is not solely about solving the case. Dove, however, holds a contrary opinion.

Damien contacts Dove, informing her that the police have subpoenaed her emails as part of their investigation into Kretk's death and the circumstances surrounding their relationship. Meanwhile, Gilbert remains committed to interviewing locals about the town and strikes up a conversation with a man named Darragh. He then proceeds to talk to Seamus, who cautions Gilbert against inquiring about the disappearances.

Sean continues to exude a mysterious and shady aura, and we witness him meeting with a woman to purchase a gun or multiple guns. At this juncture, the nature of his actions remains unclear.

As Gilbert spends more time mingling with the locals, they repeatedly mention a man named Frank, a figure who remains a mystery to Gilbert. Dove, on the other hand, inquiries about Fiona and Malachy from the locals. They describe Fiona as a charming young woman, while Malachy remains a more enigmatic figure, known to keep to himself. Dove and Emmy follow a potential lead at the library, while Gilbert heads to the pub with his newfound friends. Sean suddenly appears and informs Seamus that "the package has been received," a cryptic message that leaves much to speculation.

Later, two individuals approach Gilbert, claiming that he owes Frank €8,000 due to a gambling loss when he got drunk one night. Gilbert is completely oblivious to this debt, and upon reviewing his bank statements in his room, he realizes he simply does not have the funds to pay. The thought of coughing up €8,000 leaves him bewildered and despairing.
