Bodkin – Season 1 Episode 5 1

Accompanied by Gilbert, Seamus makes a visit to Ed, an Elvis impersonator who runs a diner. He's on a mission to uncover some crucial information and the McArdles are his target. Gilbert persuades Ed to lend a helping hand by dangling the prospect of publicity on his wildly popular podcast.

As they drive to meet the McArdles, Seamus reveals to Gilbert the secretive methods they employed to smuggle contraband from Bodkin across the border. This is where their feud with the McArdles originated. He recalls how the McArdles attacked him in his own home while he was busy frying an egg. In a fit of desperation, he clobbered Oisin McArdle with the frying pan, and that fateful incident set off a chain of events leading to Malachy's tragic death and Fiona's mysterious disappearance. In a panic, he fled and tried to warn Fiona and Malachy to flee as well, but he was too late.

Gilbert and Seamus finally arrive at a small shop, where they confront Bronagh McArdle. Seamus sends Gilbert in as a distraction, but Gilbert accidentally gives himself away by mentioning her name, which she hadn't yet disclosed. She immediately brandishes a gun at him, but before things can escalate, Seamus rushes in, gun pointed at Bronagh.

"I didn't realize a ghost could put on weight, but I'm looking at a fat, f*****' ghost," she sneers. It's a remark that is both shocking and hilarious, adding a layer of absurd humor to the already tense situation.

Seamus, visibly shaken, urgently inquired about Fiona's fate. She feigned ignorance, claiming she had no knowledge of Fiona, Bodkin, or the matter he spoke of, yet her facade was transparent. Picking up the phone, she dialed a number, heightening the intrigue not only in Bodkin but beyond its borders.

Suddenly, Dove tumbled out of a tree by the roadside, leaving everyone bewildered. Where had she sprung from? She revealed that the car, in which Malachy's lifeless body was discovered alongside a mysterious woman, belonged to Power.

Seamus hastened to the hospital, where Power was recuperating from a heart attack. Power confessed that he had attempted to assist Malachy in escaping, but Fiona never materialized. He withheld this information to safeguard his son, Teddy.

Seamus pinned Gilbert to the ground, gun drawn, forcing him to confess every lie he had uttered. Gilbert revealed that the eel buyers might be collaborating with Interpol. Their conversation was interrupted by a call from Amber, informing Gilbert she was on her way to Bodkin. Then, a text from Emmy arrived, revealing that she knew the identity of the woman in the car with Malachy!

Flashing back to the night before, Dove received a call from Damien, notifying her that the extradition order had been signed, and she must return to London. She retorted that they wouldn't dare come fetch her from this "dump." Unfazed, Dove headed to the pub, singing "You Were Always On My Mind" by Willie Nelson at the karaoke, leaving everyone scratching their heads. What was happening in this bizarre town?

Dove collapses in a heap as she melts down, her anger boiling over as she confronts Power. Unexpectedly, Power collapses with a heart attack in the middle of the pub, sending shockwaves through the establishment. Dove, dazed and confused, passes out and awakens in a chilling environment - the funeral home/morgue. Her behavior towards Mary is brash and disrespectful, earning her a swift ejection from the premises.

Wandering aimlessly down the road, Dove stumbles upon her jacket hanging ominously in a tree. She pauses, perplexed, wondering how it could have gotten there. Suddenly, the ground beneath her feet gives way, and she tumbles out of the tree, revealing a startling truth to Seamus - the bodies hidden in the trunk of the car belong to Malachy.

With newfound determination, Dove sets out to visit Teddy, whose condition is far from ideal. His memory is hazy about the fateful night, but he recalls the bloodstained horror of Power's house and the brick clenched in his hand. He fears he is the one who killed Malachy and Fiona. Dove gently breaks the news to him that the body is not Fiona's and that Power has deceived him all these years.

Later, Power confesses to Dove a twisted tale of events. Teddy, in a fit of anger over Malachy's decision to search for Fiona, had lashed out with a brick, fatally striking him. In a panic, Power attempted to dispose of the body, but in his haste, he accidentally hit a woman with his car. He hastily loaded both bodies into the car and sank it in the bog that fateful night.

The story rewinds once more to the pub, where Emmy and Fintan's chemistry ignites, stealing Dove's thunder as she prepares to sing. Emmy, in a moment of mischief, steals Dove's jacket and flees with Fintan. She throws the jacket into the branches of a tree, unaware that this same tree will later play a pivotal role in Dove's journey. As Emmy has a melodramatic breakdown by the roadside, Dove's fate hangs precariously in the balance, and the tree stands as a silent witness to the events that will unfold.

As the sun rises, Fintan greets Emmy with a team of geeks, presumably, gathered at his abode, engrossed in some mysterious project. He delivers a rousing speech to Emmy, urging her to embrace her self-confidence and assertively demand what she deserves from the world, from Dove, from Gilbert, and from everyone else. Empowered, Emmy returns to the funeral home to inspect the bodies once more.

She bribes Mary's daughter, Jo, to assist her in examining the corpses. As she searches, she stumbles upon a bracelet adorned with the name "Greta". Intrigued, Emmy rewinds the audio recording, only to discover that Maeve had lied to them. Dove, Gilbert, and Emmy converge at Maeve's caravan, where Dove reveals a shocking truth: Teddy murdered Malachy, and Power was responsible for Greta's demise. But the question remains: why would Maeve conceal the truth about that fateful night?

Their investigation deepens when they learn that Fiona was also expecting a child during Samhain. Meanwhile, on his boat, Seamus urgently instructs Sean to abandon the deal with the Japanese buyers/Interpol. Suddenly, he notices smoke billowing into the compartment of his vessel. Frantically, he attempts to open the hatch, but it's been secured with a screwdriver, and the boat is rapidly engulfed in flames! The situation is dire, and Seamus must find a way to escape the inferno.
