The opening of the second season of "Cross" unfolds with the arrival of Rebecca and Donnie on a secluded island, where a group of wealthy men, including Richard Helvieg, have gathered. Their mission is not just to rescue the women who are forced to entertain these men, but also to make a substantial profit from their exploits. After being forced to submit, Richard is robbed of 11 million dollars. Rebecca has a personal motive - Richard was responsible for the death of her mother. She takes revenge by slitting his throat while Donnie ignites a Molotov cocktail, setting the island ablaze. Before they leave, Rebecca cuts off Richie's fingers and makes their way to the mainland.

Meanwhile, Alex Cross is awarded the Medal of Valor for his efforts in season one. He candidly acknowledges his shortcomings and the challenges he faces in his job. He also thanks John Sampson for helping him regain his footing. His relationship with his family is going well, and he's confident that it's only a matter of time before he and Elle reconcile. There's still an undeniable spark between them, and he even relents and allows Janika to have a phone. Later in the episode, Alex and Elle engage in a passionate, albeit brief, reunion. However, it's short-lived as Elle can't go through this again, especially after Alex's anger and determination to take down Ramsey. Their relationship is effectively over.
Elsewhere, Agent Kayla Craig is personally tasked with overseeing a major case involving Lance Durand, the CEO of Crestbrook Industries, who is being targeted and someone is trying to kill him.
Kayla is set to embark on a collaborative venture with Alex Cross, but her enthusiasm is marred by an underlying unease. They arrive at Lance's abode, where they are met with the macabre sight of Richie's severed fingers, accompanied by a chilling warning, "You're next." Given the personal nature of the crime, Alex posits it as a revenge plot. However, Lance has been receiving death threats for the past year and a half, and this incident feels more imminent.
A year ago, at a speaking engagement, a man stood up and heckled Lance, labeling him a murderer. This individual, who can evade biometrics with a "peculiar smile," might be part of a larger conspiracy. Back at the station, Cross enlists forensics to analyze the fingerprints but as he and Kayla discuss the case, they recognize that the perpetrator holds a deep-seated hatred, a child-like obsession with eliminating these men.
That night, Kayla discovers that someone is delving into her past, specifically her involvement in a mission called "Bad Religion," which threatens to tarnish her pristine reputation as a top agent. A weapon without a serial number is being investigated by Akbar, one of the men at the police station. The plan is to shift his focus away from Kayla and onto other leads.
Meanwhile, Cross pores over footage of the mysterious man from the conference and begins to piece together what's happening. The shadowy figure never exposes his left hand, which suggests he's missing fingers and is concealing it from everyone else. Whoever this man is, he desires that Lance Durand face the same fate he did. The fingers are a symbol and a lead worth pursuing.
However, the case takes a dramatic turn when John's mother, LaDonna Duvernay, arrives at the station. She demands John's assistance, insisting that she's innocent. As the episode nears its conclusion, Donnie stalks another victim, while Rebecca donns an absurd disguise at a local casino and targets another individual.
