In the eighth episode of Deadloch, Redcliffe and Dulcie take the women to the school's gymnasium due to the overwhelming chaos caused by the lack of space in the jail. They inform Margaret that the vehicle that transported Victoria was registered in her brother's name and question her about who drove her to Aleyna's. As they enter the school, Commissioner Hastings begins to scream at Dulcie and Redcliffe for their presence, resulting in Dulcie being removed from the investigation and her responsibilities being suspended.

Meanwhile, Phil McGangus arrives covered in blood with his tongue cut off. Dulcie and Redcliffe proceed with their investigation by tracking Skye O'Dwyer's cellphone, which pings near the bus, potentially indicating that she is on it. Sven calls them to inform them that Hastings and his men seized the bus, which was deserted when they boarded it, but they found the phones of all 19 men in Skye O'Dwyer's vehicle.

The duo heads to a gas station to inquire about potential cameras with the employee there. After an exhausting exchange, the store clerk reveals that she saw the bus driving towards Deadloch and noticed that the bus driver had a gas mask on. They deduce that whoever boarded the bus gassed out everyone inside before driving off. The bus is later found in the water after having been driven off the edge of a cliff.

Dulcie and Redcliffe discover that the bus passed the petrol station twice after receiving the video from the petrol station. The first time was when everyone was on the bus, while the second time was when no one was there. This revelation adds another layer of complexity to their investigation, leaving them to ponder over the true motives behind this mysterious and deadly incident.

The composite sketch reveals Ray McLintock as the Deadloch serial killer. The scene shifts to Ray, who has tied Skye O'Dwyer and the others with duct tape across their mouths. James, unable to stop making sounds, struggles to communicate with Skye, prompting Ray to cruelly cut out his tongue.

As the women enter the room, Ray attacks Dulcie and flees. Detective Redcliffe pursues him, and they reach a standoff where Ray claims to have been carrying out the murders for Dulcie and all the Deadloch women. However, Dulcie's arrival gives her the upper hand.

Ray retreats towards the lake to escape but is knocked over by the strong current and carried downstream until he is pushed through a cliff. He is found dead, with a stake through his stomach, by Dulcie and Redcliffe.

Two months after the psychopath's capture, Deadloch is thriving. Tammy is chosen as the soccer club captain. Abby, no longer a victim of James' destructive behavior, appears to be living comfortably in Deadloch. She briefly speaks with Kate from forensics, suggesting she's now Deadloch's new detective.

In the Deadloch season 1 finale, Eddie and Dulcie are seen in Darwin, knocking on Holly's door to inform her that they've taken up Bushy's case.
