Dexter: Resurrection – Season 1 Episode 9 1

Prater, mistakenly believing Dexter's turmoil stems from his serial killer past rather than his adoption of Red's identity, confesses that Charley is behind all this. She harbors no trust in Dexter, and he cleverly plays into the role of the offended killer, informing Prater that if he truly intended to eliminate them, they'd never see it coming – a wolf hidden beneath the guise of a sheep, if you will!

Intrigued, Prater demands to know more about Dexter. After cryptically asserting that he's "part of his world," Prater schedules a meeting to uncover the full extent of Dexter's secrets.

The only soul to whom Dexter confesses the truth is Harrison. As they stroll casually down the street, Dexter recounts the events of the past few weeks, painting a vivid picture of their clandestine existence. Meanwhile, Angel Batista is hot on Dexter's trail, trailing him to the subway where Dexter manages to slip away like a ghost. Ironically, Batista possesses photos of Leon Prater, though he doesn't recognize him. Nonetheless, he decides to investigate Prater's identity further.

At the hotel, Harrison places a room service order for room 1023, unaware that it's Charley's room. When she inquires about his surname, Harrison spins a tale peppered with truth about Dexter abandoning him.

Disturbed by the encounter, Harrison informs Dexter about his upcoming meeting with Prater. Dexter, determined to turn the tables, decides to give Charley a dose of her own medicine. He breaks into her apartment, discovering fingerprints lifted from Harrison and stumbling upon Charley's ailing mother upstairs. It becomes glaringly evident that Charley is caring for her, adding a layer of complexity to their already tangled web of deceit.

Dexter employs the same chilling tactics as Red, aiming to cow Charley into submission. Inside Charley’s car, with a wire tightly encircling the girl’s neck, Charley spills the beans on her harrowing ordeal. A former soldier and a veteran of various private security firms, she recounts how her association with Prater began. He had facilitated access to doctors and specialists for her ailing mother, granting her an additional eight years of life. However, this came at a steep price: she was tasked with hunting down serial killers to join his exclusive club. It transpires that Charley’s actions were not a solo endeavor but a meticulously orchestrated plot by Prater, who sought to exploit Dexter’s vulnerabilities.

Wallace summons Batista to the precinct and grills him about his past. Much like Harrison, Dexter’s narratives are a tangled web of truth and deception, leaving Batista struggling to convince Wallace of his innocence. Wallace, unyielding, demands his departure, reminding him that impersonating an officer, even in retirement, violates the law. Batista’s plight evokes sympathy, especially after enduring the losses of Maria and Doakes. As he exits, a flyer catches his eye, revealing Leon Prater’s visage, a figure closely intertwined with law enforcement circles.

Meanwhile, Prater engages Charley in conversation, noting the telltale signs of the “Dark Passenger” whispering through her injuries. He is both fascinated and awed, acknowledging her survival of an encounter with a serial killer. Yet, more pressing matters loom on the horizon, as Dexter calls to arrange their meeting. Armed with a pocket knife, his intentions are unmistakably serious. They settle on a rendezvous before the upcoming gala, the following morning.

Unfortunately, Angel Batista arrives first, confronting Leon Prater about the true identity of Dexter Morgan. When Dexter finally appears, Charley takes him by surprise, accompanied by Leon, gun pointed at Dexter’s chest, forcing him into the wine cellar. Ironically, this twist aligns perfectly with Prater’s designs, as he relishes collecting killers. He has Batista bound and expresses his desire to mentor Dexter, much like he did with the Gemini Killer. He envisions a partnership where they “collect” serial killers in a novel manner, utilizing Dexter’s lethal prowess to eliminate them.

Rather than terminating him, Dexter releases Batista from his bonds, upon which Batista springs into action, leaping atop Dexter and initiating a chokehold that threatens to extinguish his breath. In a swift motion, Leon Prater seizes a firearm, discharging it to bring an abrupt end to Batista's life before melting into the shadows with Charley in tow. Batista expires on the spot, his dying breaths evacuating a fiery farewell: "Dexter Morgan, you're fucked." Overcome with fury and grief at losing yet another cherished face from his past, Dexter roars his anguish to the sky.
