Genie, Make a Wish – K-drama Episode 6 1

The next morning, the police arrive at Ka-young’s shop, their presence a stark reminder of the undercurrents of danger. They are in search of a missing blonde woman, and Ka-young, along with Sade, pledges to alert them should she cross their paths. Curious, Ka-young requests a photo of the woman, only to have a chilling realization: the blood she’d glimpsed on Sang-tae’s tail lights might very well belong to the missing soul. Gratefully, she had held onto the shattered glasses as a macabre keepsake.

Across town, another grim discovery is made: a body is found. Irem and Ejllael observe from a distance as the police transport the remains to the mortuary. In a rare moment of vulnerability, Ejllael confides in Irem about the heavy burden his role as the angel of death places upon his shoulders. Irem, seizing the opportunity, probes into his motives for visiting Ka-young.

Meanwhile, in the heart of the city, Iblis rendezvous with his young confidant, Sang-hyeok. Their meeting is interrupted by Sade, who hastily reports Ejllael’s overture to Ka-young. Iblis, ever calculating, deduces that Ka-young will be in a foul mood and may well unleash her fury upon him. Driven by a mix of concern and caution, he sets out to find her and discovers her snorkeling in the sea, a surreal scene as she rehearses her own demise. Appearing in a bubble form, he deftly adjusts her snorkeling gear, a silent gesture of support.

In a parallel narrative, Im-seon is at her wit’s end, grappling with the rebellious streak of her daughter. A notification alerts her to Jeong-hwa’s whereabouts: she’s holed up in a motel room with a man, their attention solely on a computer game. The scene is a poignant contrast to the surrounding turmoil, a snapshot of normalcy amidst the chaos.

A fierce altercation breaks out, and in a moment of frustration, Im-seon summons Iblis to unleash her pent-up emotions. Iblis, with a mischievous glint in his eye, recounts a tale of a man who clung to his final wish for a staggering 72 years. For that last, precious wish, the man had beseeched Iblis to erase the memory of the two other wishes he had once made. Upon hearing this, Im-seon's face lights up with a newfound spark.

Back at home, Pan-geum embarks on another raid of Ka-young’s wardrobe. This time, however, Ka-young has left behind pictures to guide Pan-geum in styling the outfits. Later, as fate would have it, Pan-geum bumps into Min-ji at the café. Bok-ja, spotting them, immediately raises the alarm among the other elderly women in town. Whispers and speculation fill the air as they wonder why Mi-ju moved in during Pan-geum's absence and why Pan-geum isn't answering her phone. Seung-rye, with a cunning gleam, insists that Ka-young is the culprit behind her grandmother's demise and that Mi-ju is her accomplice.

Seung-rye leads the charge, gathering the women and Chang-sik, and marches them to Pan-geum’s house. There, she confronts Mi-ju and Ka-young with accusatory eyes. Mi-ju, heartbroken, watches as Seung-rye skillfully casts suspicion upon Ka-young. Just then, Chang-sik calls Pan-geum, and to everyone's surprise, she finally picks up. The room falls silent, and the women eagerly grab the phone to greet her. With the tension defused, the group disperses. However, unbeknownst to them, it was Iblis who had taken on Pan-geum’s form and orchestrated the entire charade. He had anticipated Ka-young’s joy, but instead, she was consumed by self-blame for having struck a deal with the devil. Her words strike a chord deep within Iblis.

Meanwhile, Irem meets with Min-ji once more. Irem, revealing her deafness, explains that she reads lips to communicate. In search of some solace, Iblis inadvertently stumbles upon a gambling den and finds himself arrested. Ka-young, ever the savior, bails him out and delivers another beating for his troubles.

After much contemplation about her next wish, Bu-gyeong approaches Iblis with a request to maximize Ka-young’s daily transfer limit. Immediately, Ka-young marches into the bank and increases her limit. Bu-gyeong, overjoyed, begins siphoning money from Ka-young’s account into her own on a daily basis. Ka-young, seeking solace, confides in Iblis about her arrogance in trusting humans and inquires why he visited her at the sea.

As days pass, Min-ji and Mi-ju grow increasingly close, their bond deepening with each passing moment. Chang-sik, however, becomes more and more suspicious of the family residing in the mansion. Meanwhile, Sang-hyeok confides in Iblis about the abuse he and his mother endure at the hands of his mother’s boyfriend. Convinced he saw an angel during his escape, he prays fervently for his mother's salvation. Iblis, in a twisted act of kindness, offers to eliminate the man for a mere won. He whisks the man away to the desert and leaves him at the mercy of wild dogs. Later, Ejllael appears, scolding Iblis for meddling with human affairs once again.

Iblis brings up Ejllael's offer to Ka-young, suggesting that perhaps Ejllael isn't the villain he's painted to be. He questions Ejllael's motives and probes whether Iblis himself is trembling with fear. Meanwhile, back in Korea, Ka-young has her watch examined to unravel the mystery of what transpired when she touched the hourglass. Alas, the watch reveals no anomalies. She returns to scrutinize the lamp and stumbles upon an inscription etched on its back. A quick online search and translation reveal that the lamp was crafted in 1041 AD. She concludes that Iblis must have lied, as there's a puzzling twenty-year discrepancy from the time he claimed to have been imprisoned.

Across town, Kim Gae spends his days sniffing the air as cars whiz by, driven by a yearning to reconnect with his long-lost family. His driver, though concerned for his boss's mental well-being, indulges his whims. He also detects the watchful eyes of the men from the mansion and notes Chang-sik and his crew keeping tabs on the estate.

At the bank, Bu-gyeong finds herself in hot water when the institution discovers that Ka-young's funds are being funneled into her account. The bank manager demands that she rectify the situation before Ka-young lodges a complaint. Bu-gyeong vehemently denies any wrongdoing, prompting the manager to insist she visit Ka-young and clear the air.

Back at the mansion, Jung-hoon delivers an apple to the man confined in the attic, who has a string tied around his leg. Jung-hoon expresses gratitude for a book and departs. The scene then shifts to Ejllael in his office.

Ka-young arrives, ready to accept Ejllael's offer. He transports her back to the fateful night of her demise. Iblis lurked in the desert, biding his time for his next master. A band of traders, besieged by wild dogs, made a harrowing decision to sacrifice a slave boy, Hunbish, to the ravenous beasts.

Amidst the chaos, Ka-young tumbled and chanced upon the lamp. She made a desperate wish to save Hunbish and grant him a long life. Iblis, seizing the opportunity, slew the traders and bestowed their remaining years upon Hunbish.

In her second wish, Ka-young pleaded for an end to the slave trade of her people. Iblis obliterated the trade routes, unleashing tsunamis and claiming more lives in the process.

Before she could utter her third wish, Ejllael materialized, accusing her of the deaths wrought by her wishes. Overwhelmed with remorse, Ka-young refused to save herself from the wild dogs' mauling.

Iblis had deliberately set her up, hoping she'd make a selfish wish. Instead, she wished for punishment for both herself and Iblis, who had deceived her. Her final wish enraged Iblis, who couldn't fathom a mere mortal daring to seek his retribution.

At that moment, Ejllael appeared, poised to imprison Iblis. Ka-young was the righteous soul the Supreme Being had foretold. Iblis watched helplessly as Ka-young's body decayed into ash. Eventually, he gathered a portion of her ashes, as he found himself gradually being absorbed into the lamp.

At this very moment, Ka-young catches sight of an unsettling expression flitting across Iblis's face, just as he stands on the brink of being confined within the lamp. She sinks to her knees, her gaze fixed intently on his visage, and extends her hands, driven by an insatiable curiosity to touch him. To her astonishment, Iblis exhibits a profound sense of remorse and genuine sorrow in the fleeting moments before his entrapment.

The instant her fingertips graze his cheek, the hourglass embedded within the lamp springs to life. With a silent, ominous tick, a day is shaved off her lifespan.

Abruptly, Iblis is seized by a searing pain that pierces his chest, causing him to crumple to his knees. A raging inferno consumes him from within; his hands, now ablaze, reduce everything they come into contact with to ashes. As the flames lick at his skin, fragments of memories begin to resurface, flickering like ghostly images in the darkness of his mind. He recalls a past encounter with Ka-young, where he wept tears of blood, his cries of anguish echoing through the corridors of time. In this haunting recollection, he is also seen screaming, his voice raw with torment and despair.
