Genie, Make a Wish – K-drama Episode 8 1

Shadi, meanwhile, unveils his true motive: he aims to alert Iblis to his presence, hoping to draw the ancient spirit out to confront Jung-hoon. However, Shadi fails to anticipate that Jung-hoon has been lying in wait, using him as bait to ensnare Iblis.

In a twist that adds to the enigma surrounding this household, Shadi unexpectedly refers to Jung-hoon as Khalid, sparking curiosity and confusion. What secrets lie buried within these walls?

Jung-hoon’s grand ambition becomes clear: he seeks to seize the lamp and usurp Iblis as its new master, aiming to ascend as the supreme ruler of all spirits.

Within the lamp’s mystical confines, Ka-young berates Iblis for abandoning her in the desert. She demands answers, eager to know what Iblis learned from Elljael. She has already deduced that Jung-hoon employed her as a test subject to determine if she possessed the ability to untie the enigmatic strings.

Ka-young then recounts another vision she experienced upon touching the hourglass: a young boy named Khalid, diligently weaving a rug.

Upon emerging from the lamp, Ka-young enlists the help of Pan-geum and Sade to decipher the workings of the strings. It becomes apparent that she is the sole human capable of unraveling them. Remarkably, the strings exert no influence over humans, weighing nothing at all.

As she scrutinizes them further, Ka-young notices that the strings are tinged black, a hue she theorizes may stem from her own blood, perhaps from a past life. This revelation explains why she alone possesses the power to untie them. In a bold act of retribution for Iblis’s past betrayal—leaving her stranded in the desert in a previous existence—she binds Iblis with the very strings, leaving him trapped within her home.

Back at Jung-hoon’s lavish abode, Jun-u musters the courage to request the termination of his contract with Jung-hoon. The woman, masquerading as Jung-hoon’s mother, issues a stern warning, cautioning him against any rash decisions. They all refer to Jung-hoon as ‘Father’ because he has molded them into survivors, fierce and loyal like wild dogs. This is the very reason for their unwavering devotion to him. She further admonishes Jun-u to refrain from probing too deeply with his inquiries.

Meanwhile, Min-ji stands out as the one who refrains from bombarding others with questions when she unexpectedly encounters Mi-ju at a café. She pledges to keep Ka-young’s secret close to her heart and fiercely defends her against the swirling rumors. Mi-ju is deeply moved by Min-ji’s unwavering friendship.

In a different corner of the city, Sang-tae revels in watching his heinous crimes unfold on Yeong-hyeon’s YouTube channel. That very evening, Ka-young pays him a visit and hands over the incriminating evidence she discovered in his car. She feigns interest in becoming his partner in crime, an idea that sends a thrill down Sang-tae’s spine.

He vows to clean up his mess before they embark on their sinister journey together. Later, Ka-young confides in Iblis about her desire to recover the body of the other woman. To achieve this, she needs Sang-tae to make his final wish, aiming to erase any traces of evidence against him.

She entrusts Iblis with the notebook, instructing him to hand it over when Sang-tae retraces his steps and attempts to rectify his past mistakes by traveling back in time. Ka-young brings up the enigmatic lamp and the 20-year gap that still remains a mystery. Iblis is taken aback, unable to provide any explanation.

Sade barges in, interrupting their conversation to inform Iblis that he has tracked Jung-hoon’s scent. They stake out the mansion and spot Shadi lurking around. Iblis returns home and extends an invitation to Ka-young to join him on a trip to Dubai.

Ka-young agrees, but only on the condition that she can bring Pan-geum and Min-ji along. Naturally, Sade insists on tagging along as well. At the airport, Min-ji has a chance encounter with an ex-lover, and they exchange longing glances filled with unspoken emotions. While Iblis and Ka-young pursue a lead, the rest of the group makes the most of their spontaneous holiday.

Iblis manages to establish contact with his ex, Jinniya. My jaw drops in astonishment when the stunning Song Hye-kyo makes an appearance. Jinniya recognizes Ka-young instantly and doesn’t hesitate to call her a bitch.

Confused and seething with jealousy, Ka-young chooses to ignore the insult. Jinniya extends an invitation to Iblis to enter her lamp and answers one of his burning questions. She quickly realizes that Iblis has no recollection of the events that transpired during the 20-year gap. Refusing to divulge any information from that era, she leaves them both with more questions than answers.

Instead, she redirects the conversation, answering his questions about Shadi. The scene then shifts dramatically to Jung-hoon, who locks Shadi in the basement and gag-ties his mouth. Meanwhile, Iblis senses that fragments of his memory are shrouded in mystery, sealed away from his grasp. In the interim, Ejllael pays a visit to Zahara, delivering a stern warning not to divulge any information to Iblis regarding the gaps in his memory. Zahara holds the responsibility of nurturing the soul seeds. Alas, all his floral charges have withered, save for one solitary, immortal bloom.

Ejllael recounts a past blunder to Zahara, cautioning him of the dire repercussions should he choose to disregard the warning. Returning home, he is met by Irem, who informs him of Iblis's departure to Dubai to confer with Jinniya. As retribution for aiding Iblis in locating Jinniya, he strips Irem of her voice.

Back in Dubai, a jealous Ka-young questions Sade about the nature of Jinniya and Iblis's relationship. It appears that Jinniya grew weary of Iblis and cast him aside. On another front, Min-ji and Mi-ju embark on a shopping spree. Mi-ju generously offers to purchase a pair of shoes for Min-ji. Mi-ju is once again moved by Min-ji's heartfelt words about Ka-young.

While strolling through the streets, Ka-young stumbles upon a tour spotlighting Iblis's profound fury and his legendary sword. For eons, the sword has remained embedded in a rock, impervious to all attempts to dislodge it, with the city evolving around this enigmatic monument. Iblis happens by and experiences another flash of memory. He endeavors to reclaim his sword, and to everyone's astonishment, it yields effortlessly to his hand. Ka-young commands him to return it.

On their return journey to the hotel, Iblis inquires why Min-ji's former partner was glaring at Ka-young. A flashback reveals that Min-ji's love life is nonexistent, as no woman can endure her unwavering devotion to Ka-young.

On the final day of their trip, Ka-young takes Pan-geum to catch a glimpse of her daughter from a distance. She becomes incensed upon witnessing Pan-geum's tears over her daughter.

Back in Korea, Bu-gyeong descends into madness, frantically searching for Ka-young. Im-seon decides to divorce her husband and disowns her daughter. She prepares herself and summons Iblis to grant her final wish. In a twist of fate, she mistakenly asks Iblis to erase the memories of her previous two wishes. He complies, but her elation is fleeting.

It transpires that after the final wish, all recollection of the lamp and the genie vanishes from their minds. Once their memories are lost, no more wishes can be made. This is a technicality that Iblis only divulges when it is already too late for Im-seon.

Even as it seems she is on the verge of losing the wager, Ka-young is determined to rescue Iblis from Ejllael's clutches, especially upon learning that she too will forget his existence after her last wish.

The following day, Sade is furious upon discovering that Ejllael has taken Irem's voice. He launches an attack on Ejllael, and Iblis arrives to defend his servant. A fierce battle ensues between them, raging until exhaustion overtakes them both.

After the clash, Iblis questions Ejllael about the fate of the feather he had taken before his imprisonment. He is desperate to unravel the mysteries of his past. Alas, Ejllael is unable to provide an answer to something he genuinely does not know, bound as he is to only speak the truth.

Elljael informs him with unwavering certainty that Shadi is no mere slave. He then drops a bombshell revelation—Jung-hoon is Shadi’s own son. The scene shifts abruptly as Jun-u crosses paths with Ka-young during her solitary hike. His voice trembles with urgency as he poses a question about her deepest wishes, beseeching her for a response. It is Jung-hoon who has sent him on this mission, but Ka-young, resolute and unyielding, refuses to utter a word. Jun-u, his desperation mounting, unravels a tale of his own plight—he entered into a contract blindly, lured by the promise of wealth to erase his crippling debts. In a moment of reckless fury, he lunges at Ka-young, pushing her off the cliff's edge.

As she plunges through the air, time seems to slow. Ka-young's mind races, her thoughts consumed by the loved ones she will leave behind and the perils they will face in her absence. With a sense of resignation, she braces herself for the inevitable impact. But fate intervenes in the form of Iblis, who materializes out of thin air to catch her mid-fall. His eyes blaze with a mix of anger and frustration as he scolds her for not calling out to him or using her final wish.

Ka-young, her voice tinged with emotion, explains that the thought of losing him was unbearable. She would rather face death than endure a life without him by her side. Touched by her words, Iblis's anger melts away, replaced by a warmth that envelops them both as he pulls her into a tender embrace.
