Episode 5 of Heartbreak High season 3 commences with Amerie experiencing a vivid dream where Malakai confesses his love and apologizes for kissing Missy. She awakes with a start and hastily leaves Noah's abode. On her departure, she notices a tear in her varsity jacket, but doesn't dwell on it.

Simultaneously, Nan and Ca$h confront Darren about his abandonment of his acting aspirations. Ca$h then notices that his beloved pet duck is deceased, adding another layer of sorrow to the moment.
Outside school, Amerie encounters Malakai and pays him back for her ID. He requests a conversation about the previous night, but Missy interrupts, further complicating the situation.
Missy later muses that Amerie must have ulterior motives for contacting Malakai and paying him back. This revelation brings a glimmer of hope and joy to Malakai. The situation also becomes strained between Missy and Spider, who haven't had a chance to speak yet. The tension between Harper and Amerie escalates further when Jackie shows up at school.
Jackie meets with Woodsy and insists that she uncover the student involved in the carnival incident, or else she will take matters into her own hands. Meanwhile, Amerie and Harper seek refuge in the restrooms and attempt to strategize their next move. Woodsy then召集all senior students to the gym and asks them to bring their varsity jackets. Harper suggests honesty, but as usual, Amerie has a different plan.
In the restroom, things become even more awkward when Taz clarifies that she and Sasha are not dating.
Elsewhere, Nan, Quinni, Darren, and Cash gather at the lake for Darude's funeral. They're almost caught by an officer, but they manage to make a quick getaway. Later at the gym, Sasha tries to help Missy navigate her conflicting emotions about Spider. Zoe urges her to wait until the show that evening to talk to him.
After Amerie shows up with a sleeveless varsity jacket, Woodsy summons her. Amerie denies knowing about the carnival incident and claims that Harper works there. According to her, Jackie and her family are known for their scams and are likely looking for their next payout. She insists that Harper can verify her story.
After Darude's burial, Cash confronts Darren and challenges them to stop hiding their true selves. He points out that this is why Darren's acting is so terrible.
After school, Harper confronts Amerie for trashing Jackie's reputation to save herself. She kicks Amerie out after Liam arrives. She's also offended that Amerie was bold enough to ask her to lie when Woodsy mentions it.
Meanwhile, the rest of the students prepare for their art presentation at St. Bruno's, since their hall has burnt down. Taz continues to run a scam and tells Quinni it's her safety net in case Woodsy kicks her out, like everyone else. She's surprised when Quinni covers for her with Miss Obah.
Back at Noah's place, Amerie gets ready while feeling anxious about whether Harper will back her up. Noah assures her that things will work out. Malakai notices the tension between the two girls at the art event and agrees.
Speaking of Harper, she prepares alongside Liam's support and discovers that Clancy informed Jackie about seeing someone in the control house. Ahead of the performance, Miss Obah encourages Darren to let go of his facade and draws from her own experience as a testament. Her advice resonates deeply within them. Sasha tries to comfort Spider, assuring him that things will work out with Missy since she showed up for him. She hopes that Taz did the same for her. Unfortunately, Taz later confirms that their relationship is casual and asks Sasha to end it if she feels uncomfortable.
As Amerie requested, Harper lies to Woodsy, claiming that Clancy is always intoxicated and that Jackie and Liam are con artists. The presentation goes well for the most part, with Darren embracing Miss Obah's advice and acting with all his heart. After the performance, Darren reveals their intention to pursue their acting dreams in New York. They invite Ca$h to join them, and the latter agrees.
Noah excuses himself to use the restroom, and Malakai seizes this opportunity to confess what he wrote in the letter to Amerie. She is suddenly overcome with emotion and leaves in the midst of Darren's performance to compose herself. After reflection, she tells him it's too late to fight for her. Malakai is understandably heartbroken. On his way out, Noah confronts him, inquiring about what he said to upset Amerie. Missy steps in, and Spider finds her trying to talk Malakai down. Out of jealousy, Spider confronts Malakai, leading to a physical altercation. The St. Bruno's principal assumes the incident is part of the presentation as everyone else watches in disappointment. Once again, Seb makes a rude remark about Harper, and she punches him in the face - quite deservedly!
After stopping the fight, Woodsy follows Malakai and finds him alone. She offers to drive him home, and he opens up about his recent struggles. He discusses his unfortunate encounter with a police officer and how it led to his downward spiral. He then confesses everything that happened at the carnival.
As for Harper, she continues to feel guilty about her actions. She tells Amerie that she will never lie for her again. Noah checks on Amerie before leaving to drive Seb home. Amerie remembers seeing Seb's car at the carnival due to its unique license plate. They immediately start suspecting Seb of turning the ride on.
